1994 Landcruiser transmission "clunk"

I was hoping to find out if a symptom I am having with my 1994 Landcruiser was typical.

When I am barely on the gas, or just coasting, and the vehicle shifts from 1st to 2nd, the transmission "clunks", and the shift is rough.

I do not experience this symptom when accelerating, so I haven't been overly concerned with it, but was curious if this is a common problem with my truck.
