BLACK SMOKE SURF

I just got back from a deisel tech., coz i had the same problem and they checked out the turbo to see it was seeping oil but that was fine. Then they suggested either the injectors needed to be reco'd or the fuel pump. But as they called their workshop for a price on the pump, which is about $3000aud, the other tech. told this guy to check out the EGR valve coz they sometimes seize up open which causes it to blow out more smoke than usual. SO they disconnected the vacuum hose and plugged it up from the EGR and the smoke has reduced by 70%. And u dont really need the EGR coz its only to burn up excess fuel while the engine is cold rather than throw it out into the exhaust. So give that a try, if not go the injectors first coz they r much cheaper than the pump!
