1999 Highlander will raise your eyebrows!

Stan, I have been shopping the SUV market for about a year now and I'm happy to say I finally made my purchase. It was tough because I had the same concerns as you...maybe wait for the 2000 models. I stubbled upon the new Highlander (SR5 with sport package) and it has just about everything I wanted (as seems like you too). 4x4 with locking rear differential, 16" rims, Tow hitch, power sunroof, hood scoop, color keyed bumber and grill, roof rack, auto, power window and door package, pretty much everything except the new fulltime 4x4 and leather. Last week I had a Sierra trip near Mammoth area and took it 4 wheeling. I was very impressed especially with the locking rear since I did get stuck in mud and that really saved my ass! I was all alone with no tools or jacks and miles from nowhere. Although I paid a bit more than I wanted (30K out the door) I believe I made a smart purchase. Also, I've already towed a nice size boat (26ft skipjack) and the launch was covered in mossy slime. The locking differential saved the day again with no problem pulling out of the water. The dealer had said that the 2000 models would not be much different....mainly options between the different models, minor bumper and grill changes and of course a steeper price. Check out this new highlander and I bet you'll be impressed. The only draw back I see is that your limited to two colors; black or imperial jade which is what I have. It gets dirty quickly but man is it beautiful when cleaned and shined. Good luck!
