No difference but...by Marc montano (no login)
I test drove both with the standard 3.4 litre. The 5 spd had the advantage off the line especially if you popped the clutch to get a little rubber burn but through the gears that auto held it's own. The auto was very very smooth through each shift and had really good punch from 0-70. From 70 on they both lack some punch expecially to pass on a hill. I managed to take the same 4runner model SR5 with the supercharger for a test drive and was blown away. That puppy slapped me back into my seat and I was going 90 before I new what hit me. Amazing what a simple blower kit will do. Intake makes a bigger difference than I thought. I am seriously considering that supercharger. By the way, the test drive was with an auto so the 5spd SC would be a little faster! wow that TRD option has the competition wondering what they'll do...V8's would still have a tough time out performing that supercharger. The only draw backs I've heard are having to use premium fuel, a slight howl from the engine and increasing insurance rates some. Still a consideration when you feel all that power! How funny to pull up next to a mustang GT and go flying by! Wow! Posted on Jul 19, 1999, 9:43 AM from IP address 162.10.96.152Respond to this message
