97 landcruiser starter problems

by johnny b (no login)

Have a 97 Lancruiser 6cyl. 4.6L. 20,000 mls. When key is turned nothing happens but 1 click. On the 2nd or 3rd try it turns over like nothing wrong. Once or twice it seemed like delayed start, then turned. Runs smooth. The majority of time turns over fine. Told maybe the starter going or ignition switch.

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks.

Starter Problems

by (no login)

I have a 97 also and it is doing the exact same thing. I took it up to get it checked out and they told me that the starter was going bad. I am about to replace the starter myself.

What did you do to fix your problem ?

Converting to diesel

by Jason Vinci (no login)

I have a 1985 Toyota Escaper Campervan with a 22R motor. I am taking it cross-country and would like to convert it to diesel so I can run it on veggie diesel. Is this possible? Will I have to also replace the transmission? Where do I look for help? Any help will do as I further explore this idea. Thank You!

Re:free AutoZone service manuals

by (no login)

Any public library in your area would have the Factory service manual,Haynes,Chiltons,Mitchells and Toyota repair books.
There is also free AutoZone service manuals at:

http://www1.autozone.com/servlet/UiBroker?ForwardPage=/az/repair_info/repair_guide/repair_guide.jsp

Finally there is a free aftermarket 1995 4-Runner (22R-E and 3VZE) service manual at:

http://www.net-impress.com/4runner/cd

For scanned pages of factory service manuals for other engines:

http://www.brian894x4.com/Scannedmanual.html
http://www.showmesome.info/hilux/info/manuals/1KZ-TE
http://toyoefi.freeyellow.com/manual.html
http://www.grubinski.com/grubinski/manuals.html
http://www.hotrodder.com/kwkride/tech.html
http://www.autoshop101.com
http://www.mtv411.com/sitemap.htm

As for a specific free service manual download for 1994 pickup I don't know of any sites but the other free service manual downloads should be the same, for the mean time try using or downloading the free EPC (electronic parts catalog) that Toyota dealerships use around the world.

Here are places to download the Toyota EPC catalog:

http://www.yankeetoys.org/docs.htm
http://www.supracentral.com/oldschool/htm/epc.htm
http://www.showmesome.info/hilux/info/download_links.htm

For version 1/2002 the p***words are:
Europe 02052311; General 02032511; U.S.A. 02022608; Japan 02071608

Here's the codes for the 01/2002 disks:
Europe 02022004
General 02022212
U.S.A. 02022608
Japan 01121209

There is a Russian Toyota dealership that has the EPC online to be viewed:

http://catalog.exist.ru/toyota
http://www.elcats.ru/toyota

To translate text/site language:

http://babelfish.altavista.com/tr
http://www.translate.ru/eng/srvurl.asp
http://www.tranexp.com:2000/InterTran

I copied Todd E's posting from about 2 months ago that he posted at:

http://www.t4x4pickup.com/dgroup/index.html:

"There is a newer version of the EPC available for download.Similar in size to the older version (254MB and 220MB zipped files)
I have them on my personal FTP server (not always running), and they are also on another FTP server.

Address and login for mine:
151.203.109.45 Port 21
Login: t4x4pickup
P***word: t4x4pickup

Address and login for the other (usually running 24/7)
ftp.lawvision.net
User: upload
P***: upload

Apparently they cover 1988 and up vehicles (I haven't unzipped mine yet).

Feel free to upload and download on mine.

Enjoy!

nah..but when the ECT PWR light comes on, your in power mode..good for towing and going up hills..when the light is off its normal mode..better economy..basically in power mode it revs the gears out a little more

Ryan,

I don't know if I would buy from here, but I saw some clear lights for a 92 runner (that's what I own) on ebay just recenlty.

I am also looking for a scoop. Let me know if you find anything. Do you know if a newer hood (with a scoop) will fit on a 92? I love the way the new runners look. Much better than just adding a scoop on top of the existing hood.

Mods for Highlander

by (no login)

I just got an '03 Highlander on Saturday, but its a pretty basic model. Except for 4WD, it only comes with the standard Toyota features [AC (no climate control), single cd/tape, 2.4L 4 cyl engine, power windows/locks], and i opted for the Sears package and the after market alarm system. What kind of things can I look into adding to my new baby? I want to add fog lights, as there's a slot on the front for them. Any other ideas? Any websites with information on ordering, or similar information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

AC compressor pully not energising

by (no login)

On the Surf/4 runner ther are 4 posible causes for this to happen all but one cheap and easy to fix.
1> High Pressure swich faulty. Look inside engin bay for small gas cylender (follow small pipe from condensor in front on goes to compressor other to the tank) on the tank you will find a smal (normaly black) sensor with two wires. If the fan condensor fan is working is workink brige out the switch you will hear a click fron the pully if it energises. If this is the problem simply unscrew the sensor and get a new one from a car ac repair shop. screw back in and replace wireing It does not mater wich wire goes where. A warning thoug do not drive and use the ac with the wire bridged. the swiych cost about $30 or you can suport toyota and pay $80 it comes from the same factory so no one will know.
2> Low pressure swich failure.not all have this but later models have had some clever upgrades saving you lots of money in the long run. Follow big pipe from compressor and the same prosedure as before.
1 and 2 are both safteys one for over pressure and one out of gas.
3>Check the puly solinoid. next to the pully on the compressor are two wires use a multimeter to find the positive and negative on the pump if you have a supply to the solinoid chances are good it had its days. Once again go to a ac repair shop AND ASK THEM TO REPLACE IT chanses of damaging the shaft seal is good when removing the bearing so Get them to quote you a price before they start. DO NOT ATEMPT THIS AT HOME 99% CHANCE OF COSTING YOU MORE at the end of the day.
4> READ THIS; System short of gas. even thoug there might still be gas in the system it might not be enough thus an lp swich a system gets damaged 123 if it runs without gas it normaly loses its oil if it loses gas thus its a safty.

Im a qualified refreigeration engineer so if you have any more questions feel free to ask.
Cheers Corne

Re: 4runner hood

by (no login)

You can get it from the dealer. I just bought one for my 98 4runner and the dealer isnt too expensive, but if you want real cheap...best bet is to go to a junkyard and buy it. I have an extra one...but whoever you buy it from...you will end up paying tremendous amounts in shipping and handling...so go to a junkyard or dealer.

lowering 4 runner

by david (no login)

if you do it do it right. you may run into some minor problems at first such as excessive shock top wear, necessary allignment adjustment, -1.0 camber for sr5 both front and back, a very rough ride even with progressive rate springs. the trick is finding the proper combination of strut and coilovers. look at TRD.com and check out their products. remember you may opt for a softer tire which of course will wear usually due to a low utqg rating. this will help absorb bumps that rattle your insides. since the vehicle will overreact in adverse weather i advise a set of snow tires for the winter. a set of blizzack ws-50 model will do you right.
