Hi-Lux Surf Tyre Pressures

by (no login)

I have just bought a 2.4 T/D Hi-Lux and it is fitted with Bridgestone 265/70 R15 Dueler H/T 686 Tubless steel belted radial M+S. As I have not got a manual, could anyone advise me of the correct tyre pressures.
I contacted Bridgestone and they told me that they did not have my veh model listed and could not help me.
Thanks in advance

Tire Pressures

by Andrew (no login)

Have you had a look at the drivers side door and around this area? Usually tire pressures are on a sticker in this area.

About tire pressure, depends on what you want it for.
Up where I live it is rocky and I run pressures around 40 psi.

I think the sticker on my car says run at 28 psi. But if I ran this over rock I would get punctures.

2000 4-runner rear end

by corey (no login)

I was just wondering what is the cheapest way to get a more active limited slip rearend. I dont want to spend megga bucks, but i do like to hot rod her every once in a while, and i can only get positive traction burnouts every once in a blue moon. I thought maybe when its time for new tires more street type tires would be easier to turn over than the stock michelins. I thought maybe the rear end is running a lil low on fluid, I could check it....any help would be appreciated guys. thnx

Bilstein or OME?

by pekong (no login)

I got a 96 4runner 2WD and thinking to replace my stock shocks. No plans on lowering or raising my suv
but just would like your recommendations.
My suv drives stiff these days and been planning
to replace. I want a softer/smooth ride but at the
same time not sacrificing my control on the road.
I drive 98% of the time on city streets and highways.
I heard bilsteins are a bit stiff, should I go with
Old Mans Emu?
Appreciate any input. Thanks.

98 4 Runner Rough Ride

I want to order some new shocks for my 4 Runner. The ride has always been poor. Where did you get your shocks? Front and Rear replaced? My truck is almost perfect except for the ride. I don't recommend a 4Runner to friends because of the ride, and that is a shame. I thinks Toyota should have recalled the shocks.
thx for any help.

Problems with Hilux Surf, Automatic-1993 VZN

by (no login)

Hie folks,
Some advise please. My 1993 surf has done 70 000 kilos.I have no manual for it. When l speed up to 110 km/hr-some smell from the engine comes up and l can t tell what it is. Some people think its fuel others think its something else...
Secondly, when l drive on hard surfaces--at times l get some clicking sound from below, as if the car is hiting some objects on the gorund when in fact its not. Anyone has a similar problem??
Finally--how can l get an owners manual?
Thanks guys

Under powered 92 Toyota Hi lLux surf

by Karl (no login)

I recently replaced my LT2 engine with like but have found the vehicle is very under powered (especially driving uphill),compared to my old engine (old engine seized). I fitted a new air & fuel filter and refitted the original fuel pump. When the accelerator pedal is to the floor the exhaust emmissions are very clean, no black, white or blue smoke. It appears to be fuel starvation, can anybody please help.

Red Button

by K O'Brien (no login)

The reb button is used in case the battery dies and you would need to move the gearshift into Neutral (because you can only move it when the engine is running). By pressing the red button, it allows the shifter to move to Neutral.

I own a 1992 2.4td auto Surf.

The button on the side of the shift lever is to switch in the overdrive.
There is another switch in front of the shift lever which is basically Sport or Economy mode. In sport mode you can rev the engine higher before it changes gear.

Hope this helps, Len. (from the uk but living in Bulgaria where I have great fun with my 2.4 TD Surf.

In terms of performance how is driving your automatic transmission like a manual.

E.G. Shifting from L to 2 to D (WITH OD OFF) then OD ON

Is that the same idea? Or are you loooking at two different things?

Does enabling the 4WD mode in the 2000 SR5 consume more gas?

Is ECT recommended for speeding?
Or is there other purposes.

Thank you in Advance

Re: A Few questions

by (no login)

According to information in the owner's manual, the ECT switch is pushed when you need extra power going up hills. It does seem to give my RAV4 a little boost as it is sluggish on hills.

Thanks.
So then in essence, it should give you a little extra speed. Does it resemble the Power button in Nissans because that according to the Manual revs the engine higher and therefore speeding up your car.

Supercharging my 3.0 liter 4Runner

by (no login)

Still looking for a response from anyone who may know what my options are. I have a 95 4Runner 4x4, with a 3.0 liter V-6 and I want some performance mods done. One item that I am making no progress on is a Supercharger for this specific engine. As I understand it, TRD does not manufacture one.
Do I have any other options? If you know of one, feel free to e-mail me with guidance/phone numbers/links.

Re: Supercharging my 3.0 liter 4Runner

by (no login)

I looked into it several years ago, and found out that the reason no one makes one, is that the head gasket is too weak in our motors. So we're out of luck. Today I saw a guy on ebay put a tacoma 3.4 V-6 in his 91 pickup, and was getting ready to put the supercharger on that.

I too was wondering about supercharging the 3VZ-E but I doubt there's even enough physical space in the 4Runner engine bay! That's why I was always interested in swapping a 5VZ-FE but had never heard of that being done before. I take it that the pick-up you mention is a HiLux, but does it have IFS like the 4Rununer? How did the swap go?

Help me with this purchase decision??????????

by (no login)

I've been looking at a 94 Toyota 4x4 with V6, Xtracab, 79K miles, 32" tires on aftermarket wheels in beautiful condition for $8,000 from a private owner..(See picture)

[img][/img]

I previously owned a 1994 Toyota 4x4 regular cab with the 4cylinder 22r..

I've driven this V6 twice, and althought it runs very good, I can't get over how noisy this V6 is!!

It is VERY audible from the cab at highway speeds, with the AC on, but less noticeable with the windows down..

This truck is immaculate structurally, and if it has ever been off road, there is no evidence of it..

The owner says that the noisiness is coming from around the shifter boot, as it doesn't seal right after the 3" body lift....

If I cover the opening with my hand it does quiet down some, but I can't get over the clatter coming from the engine at highway speeds..

Are these engines particularly noisy?? or noisier than the 22R's???

Hilux diesel owner servicing

My 1999 Hilux diesel is now out of warranty. It's an Australian model 2WD with a single cabin & a flat tray back. I wish to start servicing it myself.
What workshop manual would the forum suggest? The dealers version comes in about 3 volumes!!- is there a generic version on the market yet?
I have literally decades of owner service & repair experience with VW's MG's etc but this will be my 1st diesel. Apart from more regular filter changes to make sure the fuel's clean I would imagine diesels should really be easier to service than a petrol vehicle.

Overheating

by (no login)

I have a '93 4runner V6 that overheats when driven. After buying it we found the thermostat had been cut out. We replace with a normal thermostat and it overheated. The first thing we did was sniff the coolant for exhaust gases and there were none. We have replaced the radiator, water pump, fan cluch and the thermostat several times(including drilling vent holes in the thermostat which help a little but didn't solve the problem). We've had it checked by a Toyota dealer and they could only find the fan clutch which we replaced. The thermostat is at the bottom of the engine which makes it like impossible to get the air out of the system. We've used a special
burping tool but it seems like a short time after burping the air out more air prevents the thermostat from opening. The problem with a cut out thermostat is that it is an automatic and the engine doesn't get hot enough to activate overdrive. Help!!!!!
