REQUIRED PARTS FOR TOYOTA HILUX SURF 4WD SHOCK ABSORBERS

by (no login)

I have a Japanese Toyota Hilux Surf that required change of Shock Absorbers Front & Back.
I believe the front shockies are different to the back ones.
There is a control in the cabin to select shockies from "Normal" to "Hard" when driving.
Please advise if you can supply the correct shockies
I need one pair front and one pair rear.

· I am also looking for a Turbo Impeller for the same vehicle, if you stock any, please advise me the prices for brancd new and used .

· I also want to buy an engine for Toyota Hilux Diesel "3 L Engine " if turbo fitted-that's fine..Please advise me if you carry any stock and what are your prices?

Please advise me accordingly

Cheers

Surf Surging

by (no login)

Howdy,

I own a 94 model 3.0L Diesel Auto Surf and just completed a 10K trip around North Qld. The car performed quite well except for one really strange thing.

At certain stages of the trip the car seemed to start surging. While doing around 100-120kph the car would speed up then slow down on it's own. It would do it in succession for around 3-5 mins then stop and behave normally.

At first I though it may be dirty fuel but it happened at different stages maybe 4-5 times over 7 weeks. I had a 5K service half way through and the mechanic could not find anything abnormal. There didn't seem to be anything consistant about when it happened. Sometimes it did it within the first 100k's and other times after 500-600 k's.

Has anyone experienced anything like this? I know if I take it to a mechanic they will find it hard to diagnose due to the problem being intermindant.

Since I have been back it hasn't done this around town but did happen once on the highway for about 1min.

Tacho Problem

by (no login)

Howdy,
I have had a 3L Turbo Diesel and on a recent trip I had some battery problems. While trying to turn the motor over the tacho needle was seen to jump when the starter solenoid clicked. After an assisted start the tacho does not work, the needle sits on the zero and when the vehicle is turned off the needle rests at the six o'clock position. Has anyone else had this happen or know of the fix.
Cheers, John

Hi John

I have just read your post on the Hilux Surf forum, I know it was a while ago but did you ever find the fault with your tacho? Mine has done the same after a jump start.

Thanks for your help.

Hi, I had the same problem as yourself with vibration from the prop shaft. I disconnected the prop shaft and run the vehicle in two wheel drive. Vibration stopped, so I bought a reconditioned prop shaft and now everything is ok. I hope this will help you.

91 Toyota 4Runner - some advise needed

by Erick (no login)

Hey there! It seems my earlier post didn't come through very well....I have a 91 4Runner V6 automatic and it starts up normally and idles normally. After a while, it idle speed drops to about 500 RPM and the engine hesitates unless I maintain the RPM at about 2000 RPM. Spark plugs are new, hasn't been much more than 2 months since I replaced them, the cables are new and the air filter is clean. Any advise would be appreciated.

This could be your carburator. WHen that car warms up, check that the choke is fully opened. Also could have partially blocked jet in the carby - when choke closes, no enough petrol goes in for the idle.

SUV Drivers Unite !!

by Mr. P (no login)

It is time the SUV community does something to combat the absolutely horrible reputation we have with the rest of the driving public. Perhaps if we drive a bit faster, don't straddle the traffic divider stripes, don't hog the far left lane driving slower than anyone else on the interstate during rush hour (while talking on the cell phone), then perhaps we can upgrade our image as being the single worst group of drivers on the planet.

I drive a SUV, and quite frankly, I am embarrassed being associated with the SUV fraternity, simply due to the HORRIBLE driving I have observed from other people driving SUV's. Housewives driving down the center of the road, turned around batting at kids or the dog, putting on makeup, looking in the makeup mirror. Businessmen talking on the cell phone giving hand gestures to the rest of the people on the road, but not because of anything they did, but because the gesture was part of the conversation he was having, somewhere out there in FOOLS Paradise.

Come on gang, we are all going to have to do something about this, as it is true. SUV drivers are the largest group of horrible drivers on the planet.

Mr. P

this problem is kicking my butt. My AC is my 93' 4runner isn't working, well it sort of is. It will come on (sometimes) but it only stays on for a few minutes then when the compressor cycles off so does the AC. Sometimes the compressor won't even engage. I just had the r-12 converted to r-134a but that's all I've doen to find the problem.

A/C problems

by tezebe (no login)

The a/c in my 95 4Runner is cold as ice until the engine gets hot (as in Texas summer hot). It works fine during the spring and fall, but when it gets up in the 90's, it will work fine it seems until the engine reaches a certain temperature. If I turn the vehicle off, and it has a few minutes (sometimes hours)to cool it will work again.
Can anyone tell me what this might be?
Could it be something to do with a thermostat or vacuum.

A/C troubles

by (no login)

Did you solve your A/C problem?

I have a 94 4 runner that has had A/C problems for 2 years off & on. I live in Az. Started out by after driving maybe 10 minutes the air would start to get warmer til it stopped working. Next time out it would work fine. This usually happened about once a month, then later, once a week. Now 4-5 days a week. Only happened when the car was sitting outside before starting (too hot to work?). Majority of time was in the hot part of summer. Had air checked several times, hoses, etc. No problems.
All dealer can tell me is to start replacing parts til fix. Very costly if you can't find correct part firt time.

Could this be a wiring problem? Dealer didn't think so.

the noise problem could be your tires not being balanced properly, look to get them balanced somewhere that has a top of the line balancing machine. your car might not start right away if you have that crappy panosonic battarie 4runners come with. mine did the same till i got a diehard gold from sears.

2.4d turbo problems

by Mark (no login)

My 92 surf had the same problem until the car wouldn't even start if it was hot. It ended up being a sensor (1 of 5 apparently) in the injector pump. A simple test is to pour cool water on the pump once the engine is warmed up, then see if the turbo kicks in. Other wise it could be an electrical problem etc.

NPW water pumps made in Japan

by (no login)

Hi!I called a Toy dealership about a water pump for a 22R/R-E/RTE engine where they quoted me $83.80 CDN part #16100-39346 so I decided to call a local engine rebuilder and they quoted me $50 CDN for one made in Japan brand name:NPW part #1529216 and come with 1 year warranty like Toyota.
I would like to know:

A)if any of you ever dealt with NPW water pumps?
B)if so are they good quality?
C)are they ISO9001 or 2 & QS9001 or 2 certified?

Last, from my learning(reading)experience I discovered that usually when a water pump is bad it is usually noisy, has excessive freeplay and leaks coolant my water pump does non of the above but my engine runs hot so someone suggested that one or several of the impellers (or what ever they are called)
may be busted causing insufficient coolant flow thereby causing my engine to run hotter than normal specially when climbing a 30 degree incline or after 10 minutes of driving where the temp climbs and the only way to lower it is to drive faster thereby causing the coolant to circulate faster.
Could the impellers in the water pump be bad?
Thanks in advance.

Re overheating problem

by mick (no login)

Could be a problem with the clutch on your fan if when you start driving a bit faster things cool down. You are forcing more air over the radiator whereas when you are motoring slowly you rely on the fan to draw the air over the rad.
Hope this helps

Easiest way to up the boost is to get a turbosmart or similar boost controller (www.turbosmart.com.au). It simply plugs in on the vacum hose between wastegate and turbo. Then chuck in a boost gauge and adjust to your required boost level.

1974 fj-40 for sale

by (no login)

Hi,
I have a 1974 fj-40 for sale or trade. It runs great and the body is 97% rust free. It's a 4 speed, 6 cylinder, 4 wheel drive. I comes the a soft top (6 months old) and a hard top. The hard top needs some restoring but is still very usable. It has an 1/8 inch deep crease and about 12 inches long on the gate. The left quarter panel also has an 1/8 inch deep crease in itand is also is about 12 inches long. There is a patch of rust on the right rear Sil plate below the back gate (shown in one pic).Carburator has been recently rebuilt.
The pics I have shows the TLC without a spare tire carrier but I do have it. It has 33 inch tires, new brakes shoes and wheel cylinders all the way around, one new brake drum, heater front and back, factory seats both front and back. The front seats have the headrests missing. 2 inch shackle lift and Rancho 9000 adjustable shocks. There's no radio. I hope this is enough information and the PICS. No off-road just mainly used for the panhandle snow. The price is 5500 or trade for a 1990 thru 1993 mustang Gt 5 spd in good condition. Here is where you can see my pictures

Toyota 4-Runner Rear Differential

by (no login)

I recently purchased a 98 4-Runner SR5 4x4. When I release the brake after stopping I get this "thump" in the back-end. I have the same noises on my 1997 3.4
I got underneath it whilst my wife drove it back and forth, and I found what I assume to be the axle stay bar bushes to be shot to bits, AND THE BOLTS WERE ALL LOOSE!!

basically these sway bars prevent the axle trying to rotate around itself when you put power to it, or you back off,
In my caase the bushes are worn, and the blots loose, enabling the whole assembly to move and clonk upon acceleration and braking etc.

I havent yet tried to get new bushes as I am not too worried now that I know what it is.
I tightened the bolts and it helped but it didnt fix the fault.

I'll get round to it when I feel brave enough to remove and re press in 8 bushes,
I expect that job to be a REAL PIG, so it may go to a garage to it.

OEM oxygen sensor cross reference software

by (no login)

The 2.43 MB of NTK (oxygen sensor division of NGK) oxygen sensor cross reference software that can be downloaded for free is at:

home.att.net/~ngksparkplugs/wsb/html/view.cgi-home.html-.html

or the direct link:

home.att.net/~ngksparkplugs/wsb/NTK_Master_O2_sensor_Ref.xls

Note:this downloadable software cross references many OEM #'s back to each other, from one brand to another it is one of the best cross reference softwares I ever downloaded once you have the part #'s for your vehicle either single wire, double, triple or 4 wires then take those #'s and type them in at the following on line Toyota discount dealership which I think has the lowest prices in the USA to get the lowest price on the o2 sensor:

www.1sttoyotaparts.com/part_number.html

then click on "part # look up" which is located on the top right corner.
