...the actual Bday, the 12th, was OK... not stellar. But it seems to have been ramping up for a good couple of weeks. I'm still operating on the assumption that the necklace my sister gave me as a Bday present is lucky (LOL). I didn't get the package til the 12th... so the 1st day I wore it was the 13th. Friday the 13th... and I got better than expected results in a test experiment I did that day. Way better. The 14th I went to breakfast and a movie with a friend to celebrate my Bday (not Vday). We went to Slumdog. I enjoyed it and it gave me a rooting interent in the Oscars as the only movie I'd seen. We then got good news about a grant proposal we submitted in November. If my funding gets extended to July, and I expect it will, all things considered, I should be guaranteed another 2 years of salary! That would such a nice change from the perpetual... here's another 3 months... of the past few years!
And those are just some of the highlights of the past week and a half. I picked up my two "authors copies" of the book with my essay in it on my Bday too. As I suspected based on correspondance from the editor, my name is actually on the back cover. I was kinda tickled even though this is only one step above a vanity press book. I didn't pay them to publish it... but it's just pulp non-fiction. Still, ya gotta enjoy the little things, right?
