...the actual Bday, the 12th, was OK... not stellar. But it seems to have been ramping up for a good couple of weeks. I'm still operating on the assumption that the necklace my sister gave me as a Bday present is lucky (LOL). I didn't get the package til the 12th... so the 1st day I wore it was the 13th. Friday the 13th... and I got better than expected results in a test experiment I did that day. Way better. The 14th I went to breakfast and a movie with a friend to celebrate my Bday (not Vday). We went to Slumdog. I enjoyed it and it gave me a rooting interent in the Oscars as the only movie I'd seen. We then got good news about a grant proposal we submitted in November. If my funding gets extended to July, and I expect it will, all things considered, I should be guaranteed another 2 years of salary! That would such a nice change from the perpetual... here's another 3 months... of the past few years!

And those are just some of the highlights of the past week and a half. I picked up my two "authors copies" of the book with my essay in it on my Bday too. As I suspected based on correspondance from the editor, my name is actually on the back cover. I was kinda tickled even though this is only one step above a vanity press book. I didn't pay them to publish it... but it's just pulp non-fiction. Still, ya gotta enjoy the little things, right?

The actually Bday day had plusses and minuses but things have been going pretty good since then! Heck, I've even enjoyed this winter a lot. The past month finally put us well behind last year's record-setting pace of snowfall. Nonetheless, the pattern of the snowfalls and the fact we haven't seen a lot of extreme temps either way has meant when the snow falls it sticks around a long time! It's been a pretty, pretty winter!

Yes, it's pretty to look at but H--L to drive in or work in, IMHO. And like I say, I will NEVER shovel snow again. I'm serious. Either I pay somebody or cripple myself permanently.

Overall it sounds like your February (BD included) wasn't too bad all things considered. Yeh, maybe not stellar, but I agree, Enjoy the little things... That's what I try to do. Winter has been difficult around here, and I'm sick of feeling frozen all the time. But we can all feel confident that spring is just around the corner...

Sincere Belated Birthday Wishes for a very happy and fortunate 2009!

It's bliss not having to shovel... and driving in the snow usually doesn't bother me. Although there has been a time or two I left work early because the radio said they were pulling the plows... only to have blue skies and plows return to the roads long before the workday finished (LOL).

March is turning out to be OT-heavy at work... a little stressful. Not a lot, but it's not Feb anymore to be sure. But I decided to splurge and get 2nd-expense tier tix for the Supernatural con in LA at the end of the month I'm not much for autographs but the gal who prompted my winning essay effort has said I need to bring "my book" to get autographs (LOL). She is a scientist like me and she lives in San Diego. Just like I did Tulsa to get together with my Herc-friends, I'm really going to CA to meet my new SPN friend. Aside from LAX airport, the only place I've been to in CA is Disneyland, so I plan to take about a week and see a little of LA and a little more of San Diego. Should be fun!!!

Thanks for the B-day wishes. I just got a B-day card from my aunt & uncle in the mail yesterday, so these wishes here weren't really late at all {grin}.
