Venom Victorious; Evans Avoids Retirement as NECW's SPRING BREAKTHROUGH TOUR Begins!
"Revolution" Chris Venom is still the NECW Heavyweight Champion, retaining his title in dramatic fashion over the "Powerhouse" Kevin Landry to top off a fantastic night of NECW action in front of a rabid crowd at the Framingham Civic League.
In the opener, Afterburn (P.C. Cruise & Ray Diamond) and Pat Masters defeated the team of D-Unit (Doug Summers & Rocco Abruzzi) and Aaron Morrison when Masters pinned Rocco using the Masters Degree.
"Sweet" Scott Ashworth got the best of "The Egomaniac" Johnny Idol in a lumberjack match. The crowd was wild for the "Sweet man."
In a great back and forth battle, RAVE (Zack Statick & Kristian Frost) retained the NECW Tag Team Championship defeating The Logan Brothers (Matt & Bryan).
"Brutal" Bob Evans squared off against "The Pinnacle" Paul Lombardi with the stipulation that if Evans lost, he had to retire. The battle raged back and forth when Lombardi hit Evans with the loaded elbow and pinned the former champion with his feet on the ropes. After the bell rang, wrestlers came to the ring along with NECW President, Sheldon Goldberg. Goldberg said that while this was not the expected result, the production prepared a tribute and a special tribute video began to play. Suddenly, the video was cut off and former New England star and NECW office staffer, "Crusher" Sonny Goodspeed came out to the ring. He explained how Lombardi cheated, but Goldberg said he could not overrule the referee's decision. Goodspeed then grabbed one of the camera crew at ringside and played back the video for referee Rich Bass. Bass told Goldberg that he did see Lombardi cheat on the video and asked that the match me restarted. Lombardi was incensed and came out and attacked Sonny Goodspeed. Goodspeed went after Lombardi and finally got back into the ring, where Evans caught him and used the Ugly Stick to pin Lombardi, win the match and save his career.
From there, "El Boricua" Danny Diaz picked up an impressive victory over Bryce Andrews.
In a match to determine a new #1 contender, "The Golden Greek" Alex Arion, managed by Alex Crowley, defeated "Rocket" Fred Curry, Jr. in a close match.
In a PRIDE Rules Match, PRIDE (Dan Freitas & Brian Nunes) defeated Sabotage (D.C. Dillinger & Eddie Edwards) when Freitas pinned Dillinger in a bout that took place both backstage and in the ring.
Former NECW Heavyweight Champion, Michael Sain defeated "Miracle" Mike Bennett in a stretcher match when Bennett wouldn't stop fighting and they finally carried him out when Bob Evans threw in the towel. Sain and Evans stood nose to nose in a post match confrontation.
In the main event, "Revolution" Chris Venom beat "Powerhouse" Kevin Landry in an anything goes match. Alex Crowley was barred from ringside and stationed in the balcony surrounded by security. The fight began upstairs and went through the entire building. Landry tried to use the NECW Heavyweight Title Belt as a weapon, but Venom managed to get it back and pinned Landry after wrapping the belt around his elbow and hitting his trademark flying elbow off the top turnbuckle.
NECW returns to Framingham on Saturday night, May 14 with a special 7:30 bell time.
