| I know this question has been addressed here before, but since you never know what fresh answers could come from asking again, here goes -
I've been a CNA for a little over two months in an ALF, and I. Am. So. Slow.
The girl who worked here before me was quick quick quick, but also what you'd call SuperAide Extroadinaire. The boss was all smiles about her but the girl didn't do the job (no wiping before putting on a fresh depends EEEEK!!, no combing hair, no washing faces, no proper showers, etc). I insist on doing this and as a result, I'm always staying after or leaving stuff for the next shift, which I loathe.
I work the night shift (alone) and have lots of lots of cleaning to do. Sweeping and mopping, kitchen cleaning, bathrooms, laundry rooms, sweeping, wiping this and that, setting up for breakfast, on and on. Also 2 hr checks on dependent residents and woah momma do we have dependant residents, I have heard many an experienced aide say it's a glamorous nursing home here.
I have seen myself get more efficient, but I really don't know how else to hurry it up, I am constantly running around and never have time for a break, not even ten wee minutes to myself, and at the end of the day I feel worn out and good about what I've done but awful about whatever I haven't.
What corners are okay to cut? What corners aren't? According to the Admin, I have plenty of time to do what I need to, no other aides have complained about too little time, etc. Har har. According to the RN, it will get better. But. It's not! I feel like I've reached peak efficiency here and I'm struggling like crazy - and it surely doesn't help to have the day and evening shifts talking about how eeeeasy nights are.
The residents really like me, which makes me so happy. I really love what I'm doing, cattiness and infighting aside (though, to be fair, some aides and a couple nurses on other shifts have been exceptionally kind to me).
I would really appreciate some feedback here. Could I possibly be more of a home health type? I'd be grateful for any advice. Thanks for your time! | |
