When you let the families call all the shots, something is bound to go terribly wrong. They are not trained professionals and tend to tell management how to care for their loved one-even if it hinders care. That situation you are going through, should have been nipped. Each CNA was hired to do the job. Wich means that they are trained and qualified. You should not be told not to work on someone because of race, sex, sexual orientation, religion and ect. These people need to admit thier loved ones with confidence that their loved ones will recieve excellent care no matter what. If they have a personal agenda against a group of individuals, then they need to go to another facility who can better acommodate thier demands.
Soon they will find, that they need "adjust" their demands, and just get thier loved ones the care they need. Some people are very demanding. Also, they are very used to getting thier way outside the nursing home. they need to be told immediatley all the legalities, and what the facility will not do to accomodate them. these would include requests that are discriminating.
When no one sits them down and tells them these type of things, it does get out of control and we are the ones who feel the Brunt of it, as those behind the desk do not have to deal with this kind of pressure.
At my job, we have a Trio of visitors, who visit they loved ones everynight. All these ladies do is sit and talk about how bad the food is because the kitchen staff is mostsly black, and they can't cook right! they say this out loud, and some of the residents come and tell us about it. some of them do not like to hear this, because they do not feel the same way.
If you feel you have been discriminated against, speak up. Laws are supposed to protect you from it, and it should not be allowed. We all are human, and we all have feelings!
