Response to Falls |
|
Kind of an open question, but I have pretty much same response as others. Falls were specifically mentioned in a section of the text, but the concept of fall prevention was throughout the course.
Non CNA's think about falls only in the context of someone ambulating. CNA's (and I would sure think this pertains to everyone), discuss fall prevention in showers (use of shower chair), ambulating (use of gait belt and supporting weak side), transfering (proper technique so CNA doesn't fall either), wheelchair wheel-locking, bedrails, safety rails and grab bars, watching for any kind of spills on the floor, clothing (yes, we even discussed watching what residents wore or did not wear), safety checks, and the whole 'restraint thing'.
So, we discussed falls directly, or indirectly, in many of the skills and clinicals and much of the text book work. It would take pages to provide specifics. The concept is integrated throughout the CNA course and as stated, some of it aimed at making sure the CNA's didn't fall either. | |
