Response to Re: Abusive Resident

This is my favorite rant. I have no answer for it.

The issue is the never-ending struggle of having to restrain a resident who is abusive, or being abusive because you restrained the resident. There just is no easy answer out there. Yes, there are rules and regs, but no one is ever happy with them.

No one wants their mother 'tied down', but I have not forgotton how many times we had abusive residents in the hospital and I would ask the nurse if they were going to drug them or rope them.

The issue is getting worse. There is an increasing population with dementia, and prone to more violent behavior, and fewer people willing to take care of them. It's just so difficult to understand that you cannot take personally, the actions of someone with dementia.

I wish I could help, but I consider this one of several 'unanswerable' problems with the entire industry. When you're a CNA, dealing with someone elses' mother, you want Nurse Ratched.
