The nurse has been giving her medicine late. They have been giving it to her at 10 pm and the family takes her and puts her to bed at around 11 pm. See, the thing with "sundowners syndrome" is no matter how busy they are during the day or no matter what time they give her meds at night people with this syndrome stay awake and become more disoriented and confused.
Not only that, but her body is so worn out from being awake all day and all night that she is just physically exhausted. I am so out of options that I do not know what to do any more, but they are going to have to get more staff or figure out another option for her. The only problem is she's not like this during the day so the people that need to see it are not seeing it. I told the family that a 1:1 sitter for nights would probably help her from falling, not distract other staff, and help staff out by letting us tend to the other residents as needed. But, the family is not financially able to do this.
