I had an emergency and had to call out of work. I was scheduled to work tuesday 7-3. I called Monday evening at 7pm and told them I would not be able to make it in due to the situation I had no electric because my new meter was busted (another long story). Anyways, the supervisor tells me the the DON instructed her not to accept any call-outs no matter what. I called 12 hours in advance! She asked me to reschedule my service appointment for the electrican to come! The nerve of her to ask me to go powerless another couple days to come to work. Anyways, I called again at 12am to tell the next shift supervisor, that I could not attend work because I had an emergency. She told me the same thing. I did not go to work of course, sorry folks, I need a working fridge and stove ect...you know habitable living arrangements? To make matters worse, is that there are people who call out every weekend and their callout is accepted. This is my only call out in 8 months. They are pressed because they just lost 4 CNA's and have no plans to replace them-hence the working short days.
Can they do this? Can they refuse a call-out? Isn't it illegal?
