11/13/02 - Maria tells Silvana she doesn't think like her parents, a person isn't less because his family is poor. JR apologizes to Maria. She tells him he got what he wanted: she won't have the child of a bodyguard. He denies that he is a murderer. She talks about the shame he feels for his family; her mother appears and the two parents argue about whose fault it is that they haven't seen his sister Rosa Rafael: he says it is because Ana criticized everything about her. Maria tells them she has lost part of her family: the rejectors and the rejecctees. She tells them she is leaving the house. He tells her he won't give her any money.
Pablo's mother tells him about Rafael and Arturo. He tells her it didn't go well in Miami; Maria rejected him when she learned the truth.
Ligia, Antonio and Alejo talk. Ligia praises Alejo's work in the company. Alejo asks his father about Pablo. Alejo is happy to hear that Maria rejected Pablo, angry when his father says they have to help him. Ligia and Alejo say no. Antonio tells them that Pablo's life has been ruined by him, and he needs to repair the damage he has done. Alejo tells Antonio that he should concentrate on him, on his son. Ligia tells Antonio he can't talk of Pablo and Alejo as equals. Antonio says they are both human beings: he loves Alejo because he is his son, he admires Pablo for what he has made of his life.
Cristian listens to Cindy and Pablo talk. Cindy tells him how the barrio has treated her, how much she loved him, etc. He tells her he didn't leave her for another woman; he wasn't in love with her. If she wants to be his friend, ok, but that's all.
Jenny reads the letter Wilson gave Pablo for her, denies having met anybody else (though she thinks of Marlon), is sure she will be grown up when Wilson returns.
Nestor tells Pablo about Alejo's feelings toward him. Pablo goes to the office, greets and talks with Susy. Alejo gives him an order which he refuses to take since he doesn't work for him. Alejo's hatred is obvious.
Maria leaves the house. JR wishes her luck; her mother tells her to take care of herself and call, if she can. Maria asks Ferney to drive her to the airport. She visits her friend Natalia in Colombia and tries to locate JR's sister. Natalia suggests she dress more simply.
The INS raids JR's business, finds undocumented employees, tells JR he can fight the charges but will probably lose. The fine is $100,000 and 10-15 days closure. JR calls Antonio who guesses it is about the INS and answers the phone with the warning that he shouldn't employ illegals. JR tells him he won't be able to buy flowers for Valentine's day, but that is a small problem. What he will never forgive him for is the fact that Maria cancelled her wedding. Antonio is, of course, surprised, but JR is sure he and Pablo planned everything (the wedding and the INS) and promises him that he will pay for this.
Ligia is surprised to see Pablo, enters Antonio's office to find him and Bernardo embracing and laughing.
Maria Alcala knocks at Rafael's door and introduces herself as the daughter of José Ramon Alcala. She tells him she just discovered she had family and wanted to meet her cousins and uncles. Rafael tells her that her father wanted nothing to do with them and he doesn't want any problems. She tells him it is important to her; he tells her it isn't important to him, doesn't want her there. She repeats that it is important to her, really wants to meet them. He tells her to leave and not to return. She asks him if he was happy.
Cristian talks with Cindy in the shop, asks her why she won't go public with their relationship. She gives some kind of explanation, threatens to break up with him if he says anything.

11/14/02 - Rafael relents and tells Maria she can return when she wants. Pablo goes to the car shop where Cristian informs him that he is the head of sales, will soon be the administrator, that without him the business would have failed, etc. Cindy flirts with him. Then Pablo leaves. When he gets home, Cristian is there and obviously not happy to see him, but Pablo doesn't know why.
Rafael visits Tulia, invites her out but she says she needs to save all her money to pay the debt. He tells her to forget it. She tells him she stopped seeing El Colonel because she didn't want to prejudice Cristian and if he thought he could win her with these dirty tricks he is mistaken. Rafael leaves.
Pablo goes to Antonio's office and learns that Maria didn't marry; he doesn't accept another job in the company because, he tells Antonio, he doesn't want to accept a favor for hurting somebody. Later, Ligia asks Antonio why Pablo is still working for him; Antonio says he isn't, wouldn't work for him but he owes Pablo for how he used him. Ligia reminds him he has a son.
Francisco tells JR he can go to Colombia in a week. JR wants him there sooner to deal with Antonio, but Francisco wants revenge on Pablo. Francisco wants revenge on Pablo, but JR assures him he was just a puppet. Francisco doesn't know why JR is defending Pablo.
Maria returns to Rafael, asks to live with him. He agrees, finally, that they will say she is a different relative and that she needs a different name, Maria ?. She is disconcerted by the last name until Rafael tells her that her father's real name is Eustachio ?. She returns to her friend Natalia's home to get more "suitable" clothes for the person she is to play.
Rodolfo refuses to go with Francisco to Colombia.
Pablo visits El Colonel.

11/15/02 - Alejo sees Pablo talking with Susy, says he has the class to win Maria --- to which Pablo responds that since he can't go back to Miami legally, he will tell him how to use the hueco.
Maria and Natalia eat "poor" food. Then Maria gets a "poor" haircut. The "new" Maria goes to Rafael's car shop. Cindy is jealous of the attentions that Cristian pays to Maria and puts her arms around Cristian. Maria introduces herself as Maria Sambucaya. Then Rafael appears and tells Cindy they are cousins.
JR tells Federico he is going to Colombia tomorrow. Federico asks JR what he is going to do with Mauricio. JR says he has no choice but to rely on him. Federico is worried that it is risky because Mauricio is family and if he learns their plans against Antonio? Rodolfo refuses to go to Colombia with Federico; Federico tells him he won't be able to get by without him.
Alejo and Ligia accidentally bump into each other at the psychiatrist's. Ligia talks to her about reconciling with Antonio, doesn't know if it is worth the risk. The psychiatrist tells Ligia that Antonio wants to change, but neither of them, nor Antonio himself, knows if he will succeed. She goes for a cup of coffee and thinks about her relationship with Antonio, about his infidelities. That night, Ligia visits Antonio, they kiss.
Anna Maria Perez calls Antonio, from Bogota, but Antonio refuses to meet her at night in the hotel. Bernardo can't believe it. Antonio tells him that he simply doesn't want to be with anybody except Ligia.
Pablo tells Tulia he will talk to Cristian about his attitude toward El Colonel. Tulia tells him not to, also tells him that she thinks there is something between Cristian and Cindy. Pablo can't believe it, but assures her he isn't jealous. Cristian comes home and tells Pablo about the pretty new cousin who has arrived. Pablo tells him he is not interested. Pablo tries to talk to Cristian about Rafael and El Colonel, but Cristian just leaves the table.
At Rafael's home, Cindy criticizes Maria for not eating with her hands (although Rafael is also using tableware). Cindy asks Amanda what kind of work she is looking for. When Maria says she doesn't know, likes mathematics. Cindy suggests that Maria work in the house; Cindy doesn't have time to clean the house or cook. Maria lies about knowing how to do both. Rafael insists it isn't necessary, but Maria agrees. Rafael shows Maria her room, learns it is his son's Wilson who is in Miami, is afraid he isn't doing the work he wants. Maria tells him that a friend of hers owns an automotive shop and she'd be happy to talk to him about giving Wilson work. Maria says she will pay for the room, Rafael says no. Maria insists on at least paying for food. She has trouble sleeping because of all the street noise. Cindy wakes Maria up early, puts her to work in the house, washing clothes with a washboard (no washing machine of course), etc.. Then Maria takes a shower and there is no hot water.
Pablo talks with his priest and tells him that Maria didn't want anything to do with a poor person. He tells Pablo he may be misinterpreting what happened, reminds Pablo that he lied to Maria about everything, she must be confused, probably doesn't know if she fell in love with him or his money or what, reminds Pablo that she didn't marry and that must mean something. Moreover, he tells Pablo that because of Maria, he has learned things he would never have learned otherwise, would probably have been a bodyguard all his life, now knows he has other skills with which he can serve as an example to the pueblo. The priest tells him that there are good and bad rich people just as there are good and bad poor people.
Alejo is shocked in the morning to find his mother in bed with a man....who turns out to be his father. Alejo is angry at first, then Ligia explains that they are back together. This makes Alejo very happy.

06-06-2001 María empieza su vida de pobre con una fría experiencia. El Padre Joaco logra que Pablo vea su experiencia con María de otra forma. Alejo descubre a Ligia con un hombre en su cama. Mauricio le dice a José Ramón que es su aliado incondicional para destruir a Antonio. Jenny logra despertar los celos de Marlon. Ligia le dice a José Ramón que está repitiendo la historia con María y Pablo. Cindy le muestra claramente a María cuáles son sus terrenos en materia de hombres. Cristian prueba un golpe de Cindy. 07-06-2001 Tulia le consigue trabajo a María con el Padre Joaco. Pablo le da esperanzas al Coronel en su relación con Tulia. El Chamizo, el hombre al que Cristian traicionó, sale de la cárcel con sed de venganza. María le pone freno a Cristian. El Coronel visita a Tulia pero Cristian lo agrede. María encuentra a Cindy esculcando sus cosas. Pablo decide aceptar la propuesta de trabajo de Antonio. Pablo decide ir a conocer a la prima de Cindy. 08-06-2001 Cristian le confiesa con rabia a Pablo que Cindy y él son novios. Antonio enfrenta a Alejo por su comportamiento con Pablo. El Chamizo encuentra a Cristian y se lo lleva. Cindy se muestra muy coqueta con Pablo. María logra conocer a Herminio. Cristian decide aliarse con Chamizo para secuestrar a Antonio. María le dice a Cindy que se piensa devolver a su pueblo.
11-06-2001 Pablo le agradece a Ligia por la oportunidad que le está dando. Mauricio ordena cerrar la carretera para dañar a Antonio. Cindy acusa a Cristian de haberse robado la nevera. María le confiesa a Nata que le duele irse del barrio y le habla sobre el romance de Cindy y Herminio. Cindy le dice a Cristian que había pensado en darle una oportunidad a su relación con él. Federico encuentra a Pablo y empieza su venganza. Cindy se confiesa con María. 12-06-2001 Mauricio propone pelearle a Antonio con la herramienta frente a la que es más débil: las mujeres. Rafael sorprende a Tulia y al Coronel con su comportamiento. Pablo firma su nuevo contrato de trabajo y otro documento sin darse cuenta. María le informa al Padre Joaco que se pondrá al frente de la guardería. Cindy disimula la alegría al saber que María se queda. Jenny le sugiere a Tulia presentar a María con Herminio. 13-06-2001 Nestor humilla a Paola y le dice que tiene novia. Herminio le pide disculpas a Cristian por haberlo golpeado. Rafael le confiesa a María que está enamorado de Tulia. José Ramón acorrala a Silvana y la obliga a confesar que María nunca estuvo en su casa. Rafael se ve obligado a pedirle ayuda a María para comunicarse por teléfono con Wilson. Pablo conoce a la famosa prima de Cindy. Silvana le da una lección de vida a José Ramón. 14-06-2001 José Ramón le pide el divorcio a Ana. Cindy le hace cuarto a Herminio, pues quiere que conozca mejor a María. Ana no puede creer todas las razones que José Ramón argumenta para convencerla de que le dé el divorcio. Pablo cita a María para hablar. José Ramón interroga a Ferney sobre el paradero de María. Ligia recibe la llamada de una vieja amiga que le pide hospedar a su hija. 15-06-2001 Pablo y María se enfrentan duramente y se hacen muchas recriminaciones. Cindy descubre que María salió a escondidas de la casa. Pablo le pregunta a María sobre el embarazo. Cindy sale a la calle en busca de María.
