What is the best education in Durant-like approach to history, writing?
by
I would like to know which scholars and colleges today carry on some of the approaches popularized in Durant's work--synthesis of knowledge, cautious optimism, interest in all cultures without becoming lost in the details and folds of history.
I would also like to find out which colleges' English or Philosophy departments provide some insight into thinking and writing styles like Durant's.
I am an English major (and probably Spanish double-major) who wishes to gain a wider view of literary and philosophical history than tends to appear in English- and Spanish-language texts. Would I be best served by an emphesis in world literature, comparative literature, classics? A minor in philosophy or history would help, I know.
Thanks.
