Walking down the hallway in a college dorm one evening, I ran into a fellow student, Ron. He was not the typical college "fun boy"- he was intelligent. When he spoke, he said something- not just a ramble of sounds and gestures. As we talked- just a minute or so of topics such as the weather, food, etc.- I remember him mentioning the writer who most inspired him, who had written a volumous work over civilization, whose every page captivated one's imagination and demanded one's undivided attention, that by reading his works one can achieve an education--- this was my first exposure to Will Durant.
