I am in the proces of stripping the walnut stock of my B40.
As it turns out the finish i'm stripping was concealing not only some nicely grained wood but also some not so nice wood. Fortunately there isn't any filler but my stock seems to be a two tone. I guess that the really light coloured wood (almost the entire left side) is sap wood with very little colour and grain. The right side however revealed some nice(darker) walnut with some lovely grain. My ultimate goal is to finish this stock in Maccari oil but before I do so I would like some advice on what to stain the wood with to even out the colour difference. I have some very dark brown leather stain which I hope will do the job but before I ruin the stock I would like to seek some advice. Would it be possible to first stain the wood with the leathert stain and then put an oil finish on it?
