well, that's a separate issue, but after the first hour of trying out the qb79 i couldn't get rid of the 'flyers.' i tried lots of pellets (and learned from that) and i learned a TON about scope parallax (very big deal at close range and high magnification) and how to adjust an AO until it goes away (not easy).
then remembered about re-crowning, and did that just to be sure (it had been fine all along) and cleaning (always helps, but that was not the problem either).
first, i realized that i was jerking the trigger no matter how much i thought (wishfully) that i wasn't, and it took me an hour of intense effort to slow down and truly squeeze off each shot. after four partial 'trigger jobs,' it's just how i want it (thanks to the forum).
but there were the occasional maddening fliers which i knew should not have been happening, even resting on front and rear rests. VIOLA! (or cello, if you like the lower notes) the rests were not holding the gun firmly.
a pellet travels (relative to firearms) rather slowly down the barrel. allowing the gun to move after the trigger pull will send the pellets hither and yon. why didn't my instruction book tell me this?
last night i hit five of five very tiny chickens (on a paper target) with a firm hold and proved my theory. all is good with the world. it is up to me.
