I think I'm going to cal this build done
. Did some more research last night, and I'm about 99.9% convinced that my 30 fpe limit is the 1200 psi reg, and like I said before, I really don't want to go higher with this gun. That said, I decided to just shoot it today, try a variety of pellets and see what it can do.
The 18 gr. JSB has shown promise before, and are doing about 830 fps, call it about 28 fpe, so I decided to start there. Shooting in gusty winds that I made no attempt to compensate for, off just a front rest, I can consistently keep 5 shots inside 1/2" at 30 yards. I think this is going to be my go to pellet for this rifle. Kodiak/Barracudas are just as good, but hit lower.
Kodiak Greens, surprisingly enough, are also sub 1/2", but POI is about 1/2" right of the JSB's with the same POA. These are about 930 fps with this setup, and I'm pleased and surprised by the accuracy. I think I have a new pellet for starling whacking in the chicken yard
Tried some of the new Kodiak HP's, they might be okay at shorter ranges, but the 5 shot group ran to about an inch. Tried some Crow Magnums, too, more shotgun pattern than group, as usual.
And then there's the icing on the cake. Extreme spread with the JSB's is less than 10 fps, and I'm getting between 45 and 50 shots before it goes off reg. So like I said, I think I'm going to call this one good, and maybe work on the stock a little bit, before starting on my .25 build
. I'd like to say thanks to all who have helped with this project, and a special thanks to Robert, Scot, and Bob Sterne. Without you guys, this would never have happened, and I can hardly wait to get started on that .25
. Stay tuned!
