I am a "tanker", and lately have been bench-rest shooting targets at various ranges. My point is I've shortened the fill/refill regime to reflect a particular rifle's consistency sweet spot. I do this hoping to maintain the highest accuracy potential I can achieve, although it's still ultimately on me to place the shot. So your point is well taken. If I'm just plinking, I may increase the fill/refill regime, and get a few more shots per fill. I pay more attention when I want to be more precise over a given (reduced) number of shots. Not quite the same as you're saying, but genrally in the same ball park, I think.
PS, no, I'm not a very good shot, but I'm trying to use what I learn to help me along the way.
