I was thinking about saving my nickels and dimes to buy one and just wondering what you guys have to say about them. I like the semi-classic looks and lever action style but how well do they hold up . Any better guns of the same styles?

I had a Sumatra .22 carbine for a very short time. They are super hard hitting little rifles. A great value in my opinion, all metal and wood, decent build quality, repeater, all for a price much more on target with single shot PCP's. I think the thing that keeps them from being more popular is that they are a really different looking air rifle. The straight western style stock is more akin to something you'd shoot off the back of a horse than something you'd rest on sandbags. I've heard other people complain that they just don't like the little hunting scene on the side of the reciever...I think it's cool:) I personally didn't keep my Sumatra because I also got a Career707 .177 around the same time. I am more of a target shooter, so the .177 and longer air tubes on the Career had me sold. My Career, which is very similar but with an inline magazine, is my most accurate long range plinker. The accuracy of that gun is just amazing. The downside of the Career is that it has to be adjusted for each different pellet you try, so finding the pellet your gun likes can be tough. Mine likes Crosman Heavies, which was only the second pellet I tried in it, so I guess I got lucky:)

I've had mine for more than two years,now....

mine is the .22 Carbine, and is a fantastic performer. It's fit and finish is outstanding, and it's a relentlessly accurate gun. At full power, using the Eun Jin heavy pellet,it's enormously loud. If the power is dialed way down, and the heavies are exchanged with JSBs,then the noise is quite acceptable and that JSB travels at over 900fps...cheaper to shoot and many more shots at lower power. I think it's still the best value in PCP...a six shot repeater! Hope this helps in making your decision. Regards,Bryan

The Sumatra is a great gun

I did not say a "good" gun. I said "great". I have had mine for over 2 years like Bryan above, and agree with everything he said. This gun does not need to be tuned, modded, or changed to shoot extremely well. It will hold its own with the best of them. I like the pseudo engraved scene on the receiver, the wood, the 6 shots with any mix of pellets, the lever action, the look, the feel...........OK, OK, I've said enough.
