What's the general opinion on B40's these days?

I've been reading a lot of reviews, all of the info from the Kermit Texas club, everything I can find on this forum, but most of what I find seems somewhat dated.....I'm looking for a "neighbor friendly" sort of a rifle (I have a large backyard, about 1/2acre) and have been giving the B40 a lot of thought. I shoot mostly from a bench, about 25 to 30 yards average. I've read that the B40 has a factory shrouded barrel and is supposed to be quiet....throw some opinions at me guys....

Great Gun

July 5 2009, 8:55 AM

I have a TX200HC and a B40. My B40 .22 has been lubed and tuned and has a superb trigger. Great gun for the money and it is a tack driver. I am looking for one in .177 now. Buy it. You will like it. Mike in Georgia

Great Gun for the $$

July 6 2009, 7:33 PM

my B40 was tuned by MM, it shoots 660 fps with 14.3 CP's and is a boring air gun at 20 yards; it just hits the same PLACE all the time

whenever my to son's come over to visit the want to shoot the RWS Panther because it looks COOL to them and I pick up the B40

I don't let them use my personal stash of JSB, CP, RWS pellets just the cheap Gamo Hunters and away we go

their youth against my old eyes, now remember I tought them how to shoot but they can't match the old man yet behind a B40

one of these day's I will be in trouble because they will want to shoot the B40 and the Genie will be out of the bottle

warren

and remember "it's 30% the gun and 70% the shooter"

I have one for sale, very good condition, less then 20 shots made.

reason for selling: I realized I don't like complexity of loading underlever and its too heavy.

b-40 opinion good and bad

July 17 2009, 7:17 AM

For the money one of the most accurate Chinese guns i have owned. Nice looking wood and fairly well made. Keep the stock screws tight as they do loosen over time. I am not brave enought to put Lock tite on the treads. The trigger is the best part of this gun. Cocking effort is light but not as easy as a side lever and the cocking arm is a bit short as compared to break barrel rifles. I would have liked a longer barrel. It is a little heavy but that is my preference as I can control the gun better for aiming. The scope rail is a little wide. The big complaint is the small loading port. thank god I don't have big hands. I purchased mine from Pyramid Air and they had already reamed out he loading port. It is impossible to load anything but round nosed pellets. no wadcutters, hollow points or predator pellets it just takes too long and you end up marring the head of pellet. It can not be good for accuracy with a chewed up pellet. the good however I usually shoot Crosman Premier Heavies and it groups very well with them. This is a stock untuned gun and I am getting mid 760-790 fps .177 CP heavies. I like it also does not seem to have a heavy recoil like my other chinese rifles. I would highly recommend this among chinese rifles with the warning if you are a big guy with large fingers loading may be a bit frustrating.
