I have not yet had the time to read your book, but I will in a minute.

I personally would go down the route of giving it away for free, simply because, like you say it breaks down the barrier of having to pay.

To increase the percieved value of the book (this only works if you are planning on giving away resale rights), I suggest that you tell your readers at the beggining of the book that they can sell or give away the book for whatever price you want, and suggest that they sell it for whatever price you think it is worth.

I would also set up a sales page selling the product for the recomended price, that you can show your readers (they can also use the page themselves to sell the book).
