It's been a while since my last response on this topic but I would like to add something more.
Some recent stuff.
I really like to see what is working and what is not so I test things a lot.
Here's my recent little case study about email marketing.
I created an offer and ran adwords campaigns to build two lists, each including 500 prospects.
The difference is that list #1 was free to join, I gave away some stuff for visitors to subscribe.
The other list was a paid subscriber list. I charged only $1 for the stuff that I gave away before.
I loaded the same autoresponder sequence for both of these two lists. Autoresponder messages included affiliate promotions. They were exactly the same except the tracking links. There were 8 promotion mails sent to lists in the first month. I tracked the results. I didn't send any promotional mail for the first month. Didn't want any confusion. Just wanted to see which list was more responsive.
While the free list making me $48 for the first month the paid list made me $798 in affiliate commissions.
Conclusion: If you want to go with email marketing, make sure you build a buyer list. Even if you only charge $1, they would still be buyers. They are the ones who pull their credit cards out of their wallets.
So, you have a list which is full of freebie seekers? Here's what I did, and what you should do:
Be aggresive, send them emails almost everyday, until they buy or unsubscribe. This will eliminate the freebie seekers and leave you with buyers.
If you're uncomfortable with aggresive email marketing, DO NOT BE!
You gave away something valuable and you should get your share in return.
You are there to make money, you are not a charity.
Do not lose a buyer, lose a freebie seeker.
Example:
Affiliate program pays $47 commissions.
Compare these two situations:
#1
You have 10.000 freebie seekers,
You send out a promotion mail and get 0.50% conversion rate.
You make $2350 out of it.
#2
You have 5000 buyers
You send out a promotion mail and get 2% conversion rate.
You make $4700 out of it.
You see? Money is in the list but.. It's in the buyer list..
