Scott, here's why I'm not going to JUST buy Acrobat Distiller for my manuals....

Response to Question regarding PDF

Scott,

I plan on selling manuals that range from$49-$189.

I looked at Acrobat Distiller for my pdf files, but the reasons why I'm not going to buy just the Acrobat .pdf distiller program is because if I had PageMaker CD ROM, it would already have everything I needed.

The CD ROM has the Acrobat Distiller program and the acrobat .pdf printer driver on it.

When you install this CD, all you would have to do is select printer icons from your control panel, and select, "install new printer". Then select the acrobat .pdf printer from the Pagemaker CD ROM.

After that, just load the CD ROM, and select the Acrobat Distiller install option. Once this is done, creating a .pdf file is a simple matter of selecting the .pdf print file from any Windows 95/98 program.

I had a friend, who did just this, except he used Ventura Publisher instead of Pagemaker(but he bought the PageMaker Software because he thought that it was easier to use than Ventura Publisher), he was amazed at how easy it was. After doing the above, he output a 100+ page book, with over 50 illustrations, videos, and the whole sha-bang! The Pagemaker, the newer version(6.5 version) created the .pdf file that worked perfectly!

Now Scott, the PageMaker is a little expensive, but you have the convience, once you buy it, to use it as a book publisher(you won't need to by a separate software like Ventura Publisher), on top of getting the Acrobat Distiller program(you will pay $250 or more for the Acrobat Distiller alone!) with PageMaker. So now, you have two different software(and there's some additional software that come with the PageMaker) for a very low price.

Later,

Hilton Moore
