We use a script called errorbot.cgi that lets us track any 401 errors (for people having problems or trying to hack my password protected area) 404 errors (so we can tell what files are not being found) and 500 errors (so we can see
which scripts are having problems).
The script can be found at www.cgi-resources.com and is free. It is probably the best error tracking script. However your site must be hosted
on a Unix server running Apache web server to use thisscript. Errorbot also lets you create custom error pages so you can direct people wherever you want.
There are also many scripts you can use to protect your site including account manager which can be located at http://cgi.elitehost.com or password nazi at www.superscripts.com. Many of these scripts can be found at the cgi libraries like cgi-resources or www.theperlarchive.com
As for merchant accounts using AVS, I use E-Commerce Exchange (as the merchant provider) and Authorizenet (for the realtime transaction processing) and they both utilize this service. You can find out more at these 2 links:
Whatever you do, do not ever sign up with a merchant provider or transaction processor who does not use AVS. If there is anything else we can answer, do not hesitate to ask.
