Will you answer a question that I did not see readily addressed in the text of eBook Secrets?
I work as a short-run, digital book printer in California. We specialize in printing between 100-3000 books for our customers. We want to offer eBook "printing/publishing" for our p-book customers. One offer I want to make to those customers is to create an eBook from the digital files they provide us and post it to the Top 5 web sites for selling eBooks. I would offer this as a service to the customers. My payment would be fee based. The revenue from the sale of the eBooks from these 5 sites would go directly to the author/publisher.
I need your help in formulating the offer because I do not know which are the top 5 Web sites for selling eBooks. I imagine that Amazon.com, BN.com, Borders.com (which is now the same as Amazon.com, functionally) are all top eBook sellers. Can you tell me what the top 5 are?
Also what insight can you share with me about posting and selling books from the top 5 Web sites? Do these sites look for discounts on the retail price of the book? If so, what is that discount? Are there sites that will post eBooks for free and flow the revenue to the author/publisher for a slight service charge?Ê If so, what are the names of these sites?
As you know, getting into distribution for p-books is difficult for most small publishers today. Where can I turn to learn more about the different avenues of eBook distribution currently available?
