Your Opinion Please

Which is more logical - Mini Sites of 2 or 3 pages that sell, or Theme Based Content Sites of 50-200 pages, that provide information and Pre-Sell people and refer them to merchants ? There seems to be a great deal of disagreement on the Net about these two subjects and which is best for profits in the short and long term.

I tend to favor the second option because I think people are looking for information on the Net, and if they find a Sales Pitch instead, would it not drive them away ?

Any thoughts on this ? Has anyone ever tried both concepts ?

Thank you in advance.

Good question.

I'd like to find out as well. I wish there was a clear answer. Any one else want to take a stab at this? I'm quite the newbie, so I'm just guessing around.

Look at some of the peole doing very well in self publishing... Ken Evoy, Marlon Sanders, Corey Rudl--even Ken Silver-- all use miniwebsites with no content other than sales copy.

This is how you bring in the traffic!

Ken,

What you really have to ask yourself, is how am I going to bring in traffic? On another forum I told you that my gardening site generates it's own traffic.

But what I neglected to mention is that less than .000001 percent of those that arrive at my site, give or take a few zeros, have no intention of buy a product like the one I sell.

This is important.

The content on the site, brings them there for other reasons. Then my advertising messages on my site plant the idea in their mind that maybe they do need my E-book.

There is a ton of free traffic out there, but the only way you are going to get it is by offering free content that interests them, and then you still have to match a product to their interest. Fortuneately I have been able to do that.

I think the point that most people are missing on the mini site concept is that you had better all ready have a good means of generating traffic if you want to go the mini site route.

One example I studied the guy was paying 40 cents per click through on a pay per click search engine, and was making a nice profit on the product he was selling. But then something changed when he wasn't looking, and all of a sudden he was spending a lot more than he was making.

Here's my theory. I don't like to work at this.

I don't even like, and haven't in almost a year, even updated the one pay per click search engine I use.

My content websites generate traffic because other webmasters, and the search engines like my website. They feel that it is worth linking to, on behalf of their visitors.

The people mentioned that are really doing well with the mini sites have ton of affiliates sending them traffic. Great model to follow, but that traffic has to originate somewhere, it won't fall from the sky.

I enjoy creating sites that make their own traffic.

I'm not saying mini sites are bad at all. As a matter of fact I am looking at the concept right now. But you really have to answer that "where am I going to get the traffic" question before you'll know for sure.

Both ways are good!

I surely agree with Mike: With MINI sites, there is nothing that will make visitors come again and again...

But, that is not their purpose anyway. Their only
purpose is making a sale. Someone who visits minisite
is not there because of content, but because of product he is interested in.

It is proven that mini sites works, and there is no
questions about that, but only if you can generate
highly targeted traffic.

CONTENT sites, on the other hand, can generate traffic
on their own.

BUT... There is a lot work to do to build a good content site. Content needs to be really good to make visitors come again. A lot of time will be spent before you see results...

But, it is proven that content sites also works, and there is no questions about that.

Wich way is better?

Well, both ways are proven to work.

On the other hand, both ways are proven that they don't work.
Yes, it is proven because people are losing money with both, as same as it is proven that both ways works because people are making money with them.

So, wichever way you choose, make sure that you do your job good and it will work for you.

Sorry for my (terrible) English:)
