I am interested in publishing, as a service, newsletters for businesses who don't have the resources or time to do their own. Any ideas on where to get information on how tomarket and find clients?
I currently publish two modest newsletters, pretty much for free, for associations I am a member in.
Thanks for any ideas, Joe Thorn
I have a publisher friend who has a simple yet deadly effective approach for publishing monthly magazines for companies. Some of the publications he targets are in-house, while others cater to a mass market via newstands.
It's an approach that can easily succeed with newsletters too.
His first step is to ferret out existing publications, and make a proposal to the company.
As am experienced publisher, his credentials get him in the front door. He then pitches to management how his revamp of the mag will get them increased circulation and/or sales.
If there's no success there, he asks for a referral to another company.
His actions keep him busy all year round with no shortage of work.
Judging by his method, he is successful because he's talking to existing users and ramping up lacklustre publications. This is many times more effective than trying to sell the concept cold...like most things it takes more time, energy and effort to start anything from scratch.
