As I write this tonight, a friend of mine has told us she
has to pull out of her MLM business. She wasn't
making enough money.
As I pondered her past (much easier than pondering a
future
I wondered how she got into this business... a
worldwide group that promises untold wealth and free
time.
It was easy to see how. I pulled out a magazine I had
bought a few month's ago: "Working From Home" - a
quarterly published by Success Magazine, and re-read
the testimonial stories in there. It was hard not to get
enthusiastic. Here were a bunch of people who
miraculously managed to grow their income from
nothing to many thousands of dollars a week.
And they all looked like you and I - except for the 5 cars
parked on their golf-course size front lawns.
The stories all mentioned "residual income."
Now hold on - in the stories these people all said they
spent the day on the phone, meetings at night and
several weekends conducting seminars for their
downlines.
All of them made a point of being hard workers in the
building phase, where hard graft had finally paid off. But
they were still working harder than ever.
So no residual or unearned income here.
Then I pondered on the hype that attracts people to
big money. Success stories, vast riches, palatial
homes... all gained and related with a sense of
wonderment by the cheerful recipients.
But the reality is quite different (you knew I was going
to say that, didn't you!)

In fact, my friend and her husband were obliged to
buy tapes, books, attend expensive seminars, and
in fact probably spend a good deal of their income
getting revved up.
Now, I admire the MLM business. It has brought a
lot of money and happiness to a few people. In
theory it allows ordinary folk to run a business
without the overhead and debt that eventually kills
many enterprises.
But a lot of MLM wealth comes from the investment
that the resellers have to make in their mentor and
'support' functions.
When you look at businesses that appear to offer
you a lot for a little, collect your bag and walk away.
It will always prove too expensive in the end.
Not many people see beyond the Fiction of the
MLM and Get-Rich-Quick schemes. My sister
was duped into a Swiss pyramid scam a few years
ago, despite my emphatic warning, so I have first-
hand knowledge here. How sensible, sane people
can be fooled and enticed through greed and
ignorance.
The fact is that only a percentage will achieve great
financial heights in the MLM business, and most of
them will get there by "invisible" methods that
ordinary folks are not privy to.
I'll talk more about some secret, invisible methods
next week, but in the meantime I must get on with
finishing off my new project, Ezi-Trader Pro.
