Below are the rankings for January 8. With all the additional results since last week, I no longer have time to evaluate and rank the top 25. For the remainder of the season it will be just a top 10. It is still early in the season and weights are changing daily. These rankings will see major changes next week as more new weights become available. Even I will admit, I don't agree with the rankings in some weight classes. However, I use a system to evaluate wrestlers that eliminates any possible bias on my part. I'm sticking with the system and am confident by late in the season the rankings will be pretty good. Some of them are starting to take pretty good shape already. Ranked wrestlers are listed by rank, name, school, division (LL,L,M,S) and conference.

At 285, Rozier beating Belanger at BC invitational hurt Belanger. It boosted a string of 285s who were involved in a "loss" tree. The question is, who has Belanger beat above him. I need results to be specific. Date, location and specific result. Specific result means Belanger over the guy's name. Please do not say "I think Belanger beat the guy from New Milford." Make sure you KNOW that individuals that were beaten are who you think they are, not a jv guy becuase the varsity guy got bumped.
Luchuk and Deane are in the same boat. Who have they beaten on the list? I won't keep giving guys good rankings based on last year. This year's results will become more and more important, last years rating will become less and less important as I receive results from this year.
I have Torello's victories against guys that are 285. He wrestled 285 on those days. It is very difficult to rank him because he is a one man team and his results are often not posted.
I did not have the Colin Donovan over George Hogestyn result..it will be added to the results I have and will be considered in the next rankings. In the future, pleasse include the date and location of matches, if you can, when you have a result that I don't. It will help me later in the season.
Perry is ranked. Who has he beaten above him? Wrestlers are rewarded and climb the rankings by beating guys above them. Many guys at the beginning of the season get a lot of credit for last year. That credit has less value as the season progresses. Wrestlers who beat a guy above them, get his credit. If the winning wrestler of the match doesn't have any losses below him, he stays in the previously higher ranked wrestler's spot. If a guy above you gets beat by someone, he will not drop below you, he will stay above you. Therefore, you drop a spot because both the guy that lost AND the guy that won will now be above you unless you have a victory over one of them.
I know it seems unfair. But, I am dealing with less than 20% of all results. I have to use what I have. Is it fair if I keep a #9 guy ahead of a guy who beats a #2 or the old #2 guy if the #9 guy has not beaten the new #2 or the old #2?

Nice job with the rankings but let me respond to your comments. Perry from Middletown has done nothing to drop from his ranking. He is undefeated and has not been tested. He is 2-1 against Bowman in his career and beat Furze 13-5 the only time he faced him. You should not punish him for not wrestling guys in the top ten. Middletown wrestles a tough schedule, they seek out top competition, it just so happens they have not run into one another.

Don't understand the 3 SCC 103's. Lonergan (1-1) beat Matson lost to Shomberg. Shomberg (2-1)beat Lonnergan, Beat Matson, lost to Matson. Matson (1-2) lost to both Shomberg and Lonergan but also has a win against Shomberg. Seems to me they should be Shomberg, Lonnergan, Matson. Now the Cheshire kid also beat Matson but hasn't wrestled Shomberg or Lonnergan. How Matson ends up on top based on 1 win makes no sense to me.

Shootdahalf, you are right. I looked back in my notes and I only considered the most recent result with Matson-Shomberg and did not record the first match in my compiliation. My notes read incorrectly. If read correctly, it should have looked like this
Shomberg over Lonergan
Shomberg over Matson
Shomberg 2-1
Lonergan over Cervero
Lonergan 1-1
Cervero over Matson
Cervero 1-1
Matson over Shomberg
Matson 1-2
7 Shomberg based on best head to head record
8 Lonergan based on head to head record, then victory over head to head tie
9 Cerveo based on head to head record, then loss to head to head tie
10 Matson based on worst record head to head
You are right...so...103 should be ammended to read for January 8

i would like to say im very happy to so the ranking the way they are..every weight seems just right..its great to see timmy vollaro ranked finaly..and i just want to say one thing about rankings specifically the person whining about perry from middletown not being higher..rankings dont me jack squat i think its great The labeefs spend thier own hard time working on them because it really helps..but rankings dont mean anything its what you do in the divisional championships, state opens, and new englands..so what if perry beat furze and is 2-1 against bowman, im not hating on the kid but if hes so good to be cut off to be a higher rank then he should have placed in the state open and went to newenglands like furze did. thank you very much i have said what has been needed to say, and thier is no disrespect for anyone

i do not understand how fontaine and trevor ritchie could lose their number 1 spots to people they have not wrestled during the season. fontaine's only loss in the season was against the new hampshire prep team at the danbury tournament, hes beaten all his ranked kids, and also pinned that kid frmo amity last weekend.
as for ritchie, he does not have a single loss this year, and has not wrestled vollaro, he beat griswold, dark, and kennedy, how could you move up vollaro when he wasnt even ranked the past week? did he cut weight to get to 171 when we got the 2 pounds?

Well Ritchie I can see. He took 6th at 140 last year in the Opens. Vallaro took 3rd at 160. No brainer. Now Fontain I'm not sure why but 103 is tough to judge.

Doug Fontainne at 103 should deffidently be at the number 1 spot. Rich Wood should also deffidently not be in the top 4. Just because these kids came down from from being good at 112 does not mean they should be ranked higher than 103's that are probably better than them. doesnt seem fair.

Jon Fiorillo took first at the Berlin Invitational this year. Thiel I believe took 3rd. When Berlin wrestled Middletown this year Middletown bumped up Thiel so they never wrestled each other.

No last year I don't think middletown was invited to berlin but this year theil lost to some kid from new york by pin I think and some other kid and firillo made it to the finals and lost by decision to the new york and I know they didn't face eachother yet but if firillo placed 1 st last year and 2nd this year and theil was 3 rd last year and 3 rd or 4 th this year he should be number 4 not 3 that's what I think am I wrong ?

How shouldnt doug fontainne be the number one. he has only lost to an out of state wrestler. and the kid ranked 12th from 112 dropped down to 103 and is ranked first. tht doesnt make sense. bigger isnt better.
