How many first year wrestlers go on to place or win states in there entire 4 years? And how many times did they place or win states? ( there first year would be freshmen year.)

Gouveia 125 of Newtown placed 3d in opens last year
his second year. First year he didn't know about LL's
or opens and went on vacation. He would of placed then
too.

I would imagine that there are few wrestlers who start thier freshman year and end up placing at States or Opens. Kids who start wrestling at a young age have such an advantage over those who start as freshman. It takes at least one year to get a grasp of the sport. Its so different from any other sport, theres no ball, theres no goal or a net in which to score. Those that start in middle school have that much of an advantage over the hundreds of wrestlers that begin thier careers as freshman.

That is exactly why states like NY, NJ, PA and many other states have a huge advantage over New England. They have elementary teams, middle school teams and they wrestle league schedules just like our high school seasons are set up. Wrestling is a sport where dedication and experience is the key.

Lombardi(Chris) started as a freshman 11-9.After that he won the L's 3X 103,112,119.Sophmore year lost at the opens to Anthony Valles at 103.112 won the State Opens,119 was ranked 2nd before the DQ at the opens. So it is possible to get good in the 3 short years that you have left.Good Luck & train year round.

Figure I might as well point out that it is indeed possible to get good during only 4 years of experience, Jamal Parks of Oklahoma, who beat TJ Hepburn and won Senior Nationals in 2007, in addition to winning 5A oklahoma states, began the sport as a freshman and ended as one of the nation's top division 1 recruits.

There is no doubt that it is possible but it is very difficult, far more difficult then in any other sport, its just so different, its not as advertised, it requires quick action and even faster thinking. Its not that its not possible its just rare to be tops in the state, opens, NE, ect. if you just started your freshman year.
