it seems to me the price of wrestling in the off season is like college cost it's just going though the roof. It seems it's all about money now. thank god there are people like Beef that are willing to coach kids in the off season for little to no fee. Maybe a few more clubs should take a look at there prices. Remember thing are tough for some people and your cost are keeping families/kids from wrestling all year. If our doing for a business thats great. But I know some clubs have huge bank accounts. Lets start given some back to the kids. remember we coach for the love of the sport not love of the money.

Here is the info. for our club. We operate out of the Boys and Girls Club in Bristol and we waive fees / adjust fees all the time. If there are any kids interested, but they can not afford it, please still sign up and we can work something out. We have never and will never turn anyone away if there is a concern over the cost. Many of our kids in our youth club our subsidized in some way or another. If a child's family qualifies for subsidized housing or free hot lunch, that is usually enough for us to drop the fee to something like $10 or even waive it entirely. There are also scholarship opportunities through USA Wrestling - CT, and most of the coaches / club orgnizers who run tournaments are very accomodating with waiving entry fees and USA will reimburse the tournament host (although most don't even bother taking advantage of it).
If anyone has any questions about these opportunities, whether it is our club or another, please contact me or another State Club Director listed on www.usawct.org. I can say for certain that most if not all clubs in this state are very accomodating with this issue and would do whatever they can to get anyone interested in wrestling on the mat. Thanks, and I hope this helps.

I have to say we all do what we can for our kids. Some do more than others and it is about deciding what we want to pay for. It is great that some clubs are free, some aren't. They are running a business and for the most part underpaid if you add in all the hours they spend on weekends, etc. Some parents make good money and can afford it; some make good money and think they can't afford it. As a single parent I provide and perhaps spoil my kid by sending him where he wants to go for off-season, not to mention the time I invest in driving, etc. And to be honest I make less than $50,000 a year. I also picked up a 2nd job this year to help w/summer travel costs. People provide what they want and/or can for their children but looking for a free way out is not fair to those of us that do pay full price. I don't have a problem with those kids who are truly needy!! Just that over the 10 years of sports there are always parents who want a break and I have found that those who really need it don't even ask. Lets start giving some back to the coaches!
