Jan 6 rankings

The rankings are done using only about 20% of the total results of matches wrestled in Connecticut. They are done with such a small percentage of match results because many results are not reported.

As a result, I am aware that the rankings are not reflective of all the competition in the state.
If you find something that does not appear right, you are entitled to voice your opinion. I am doing the best I can with what I have. If you want to improve the rankings, make sure your box scores are reported. You can report them to one of three places.

1. E-mail them to CTwrestling7@yahoo.com. (Connecticut Wrestling Online)
2. Post them under the appropriate "please report results" dated post on pin-to-win forum.
3. E-mail them to 3periods@live.com

Please do not e-mail your opinions to the CT Wrestling Online or 3periods e-mail addresses. Only results please. It takes me between 20-30 hours a week to do the rankings. I also have a job and a family. I don't have time to read e-mails of people's opinions about how my rankings suck. I need results to improve them. Please submit only box scores and completed tournament brackets or tournament results to the e-mail addresses.

Please do not send individual results to the e-mail addresses either. You may catch me in the chat room occasionally with individual results. Or, you can post individual results that you think may not be reflected in the rankings on the rankings post on pin-to-win.

When posting results, please list names of BOTH wrestlers, date, event or location, and specific result (pin, tech, major, score). I will verify all results that are submitted before entering them in the database I use. If I can not verify it, it will not be considered. I need the information listed above to verify.

PLEASE do not post something like...Tim Jones beat that 171 from Smithtown. The 171 from Smithtown might have been a JV guy or a guy that bumped up. Do not assume the wrestler you are talking about is the guy that may be ranked. Please, make sure you know both wrestlers.

The first rankings will probably be posted between 6 and 8 PM, Tues Jan 6.

I want to thank all of the coaches, fans, parents and wrestlers that have been getting the box scores and completed tournament brackets and results to me for consideration. I hope that more folks will join them in order to help me produce the most accurate rankings possible

January 6 2009 individual rankings

I personally don't agree with some of the rankings. They will improve as the season progresses. I know many guys are still planning to drop a weight class. As soon as I know it...or see it in a box score...I will adjust it for the next rankings. The 215 weight class is a real mess from #4 on down. The weight class is very balanced with a lot of win-loss triangles. If you are planning to gripe about something in the rankings, please read the statement above in order to gripe properly so that you get my attention. I want to give special thank yous to Steve Norman, Marc Duplice and Roger Moss. The three of them have gone out of their way on numerous occasions to locate results and get them to me. Next week the number of wrestlers ranked in each weight class will drop from 25 to 16.

well you are right about the 215 looking pretty crazy but I have a feeling that may have to do with people jumping between 189-hvy, once people get situated at their weights it should be easier to rank. Thank you for your time and effort 3periods

why is mike monson of southington never ranked. He has beaten good kids, won the lancer and took third at the danbury holiday tourny. and there has been box scores with southington because other southington kids are ranked. He has even beaten kids that are ranked at 160. He should be ranked in the top 10 of 160.

This is true. Gouveia did beat Lischke but it was an incredibly close match. I saw it Lischke was up by one then in the last 20-30 seconds Gouveia got a reversal. They will match up again in SWCs this is where well see where each of them is at.....THUOTTE SUCKS!

This is true. Gouveia did beat Lischke but it was an incredibly close match. I saw it Lischke was up by one then in the last 20-30 seconds Gouveia got a reversal. They will match up again in SWCs this is where well see where each of them is at.....THUOTTE SUCKS!

I Agree with M daly. Where is eddie loomis? he is 12-1. I saw him wrestle the ledyard match (Manwering sorry spelling) and montville match (holland). He looks real tough.

I saw him at states last year wrestle many (at least 3) matches with a 2 inch gash over his eye, so he definently is tough.

Was he overlooked? I believe he should be in the top twenty at least.

yeah he should deffinitely, and so should i,loomis pinned me in the parker, but i beat the 17th 140 chokas twice 11-4 and 15-9,so loomis should be ranked and he'll be ranked above me and i'll be above chokas, i think the killingly coach probably didn't turn in loomis' stats, because my coach didn't either thats why im not ranked

some of these rankings are ridiculous they don't take in to consideration every wrestler. For example Caleb Dubourg wollcott techs 140 has only last to east lyme by points logan mitchel there 145 has 1 loss techs 112 has only lost once also and yet none of them are even metioned in the top 25 at all they are not all the kids that are solid on techs team they just dont have the strength in numbers they beat terryville but they had to give up 5 weight classes so technically tehy lost by points but only two of there wrestlers acctually lost

The guys that deserve to be ranked will eventually get ranked. Ranking anything more than top 10 is crazy silly. You can go back and forth all day long, on who beat who and who will beat who, after the top 10, and in many cases even lower.

Back in the day it was top 10, I know it is nice to see your name and get recognized but lets get real and give these guys something to work for.

My 103 pounder is a freshman that weighs 97 pounds and has pinned kids ranked at 103. Does he belong as one of the elite at 103 NO, but niether do 15 others.

For me it is nice for the kids to see their names, but is way too watered down. I would advise you to go to top 10, 16 is even to much.

Just a thought!!! As always great job and dedication 3periods.

These are my predictions for who I think are going to win the LL's entirely based off the rankings, when the brackets come out i will do another set of predictions like i do every year.
103- Steve Matson, Amity
112- Brian Jennings, Danbury
119- Charlie Costanzo, Danbury
125- Robert Ferrante, Shelton
130- John Gouveia, Newtown
135- Joe Sargenti, South Windsor
140- Tom Abbate, Xavier
145- Tucker Schaeffer, Danbury
152- Kyle Phillips-Lancaster, NFA
160- John Smith, Danbury
171- Pat Sawyer, NFA
189- Tito Slaughter, New Haven
215- Lawton Arnold, Simsbury
285- Humphrey Swift, Danbury

Now i know a lot of theses guys are already ranked number one kids but this is the way I see it playing out based of those rankings.

vernik will beat abbate
As for abbate beating Clarke he won 6-4 and Clarke was a questionable call away from getting the three back points to beat abbate in the end of the third period. Vernik has the upper hand

Delprete was up by 1 on me and stalled the entire final and second period he would jump out of bounds everytime i got his leg, the ref of the match was part of their team pretty much he didnt make any calls.

for one as i said before this is the toughest weight class...stricktly because of the top four guys. but you're all talkin about abbatte clarke an vernick....you're forgetting about watkins. tellin ya, i think he beats all three of them an wins the opens...not easy i'd say anyone of them could win on a good day, but i like the way watkins wrestles...clark vernic and abate are all funky wrestlers, i don think that shiit is going to work on watkins.

I'm Paul Gutierrez and I'm not much of a **** talker but just to make sure you get your facts straight I major dec. the currently ranked #9 and #17 114's and my one loss was at 125. To say that I haven't beaten anyone isn't true so don't take me lightly.

Yikes...at the top of every rankings there is a complete explanation of the flaws in the rankings and how they can be fixed. PLEASE take the time to read it. You will find there is a way for you to help improve the rankings that does not include whining about how worthless they are. Most of the complaining on this thread could have easily been corrected if the person doing the complaining had read the "disclaimer" at the top and acted on it.
Really...it is all explained there. PLEASE READ IT.

to Gutierrez, rankings mean absolutely nothing, on any given Saturday or Wednesday,a number one could lose to a #12 ranked wrestler or an unranked wrestler. Stuff like that happens in every sport. College football, college basketball, and the NFL are good examples. you always hear about the #1 team somehow falling to a team no one would ever think would win. So please, don't complain about not being ranked,i agree you should be on these rankings, but no need to constantly nag at 3 periods for not putting you up there. You simply take it, and wrestle, and continue to win If you wrestle the way you have, you Will be noticed sooner or later, and you have already left your mark. its just not that big of a deal to be ranked high. Yeah, some kids do get psyched out by it, others don't care, and those are the ones who do the unthinkable. Rankings have no importance...any given Saturday...or Wednesday.

hey i totally agree I'm not pushing myself on these rankings but at the same time i don't like people saying that I haven't beaten anybody when I have. I'm not criticizing 3periods and I actually appreciate the job he does on the rankings. that wasn't me saying that the rankings are worthless.

not true, on any given day no one in the state would beat andrew ford, especailly not the #12 ranked kid at 52, ford could wrestle with one arm and a broken leg and still smoke eeryone at 52...the same almost goes for frick, which i was mad right by the way about him beating watkins, and frick would toast abbatte and vernick and clarke too....ford frick and west, 3 best wrestlers in the state hands down.

mysneakerssayduckunder.. are you serious? first of all you wouldnt be allowed to wrestle with a broken arm or leg, and even if you hid or lied about it, you would lose. The pain would be to hard to get off of bottom, hold singles, get halves in, or getting a wing done on, you would..WOULD lose

I don't think Lynn from RHAM could lose at his weight either. Can't pick a nine out of ten time winner between Johnson & Costanzo. That will be the best Open final, second best will be Swift & Chambers if I had to guess.

Not to take anything away from Sullivan, but the day Onofrio wrestled Sullivan he was sick and spent most of the time he was there throwing up in the trash can. I also suspect that Sullivan was sick when he wrestled Carpenter (he may have caught it from Onofrio). Sullivan is a great wrestler and it would be interesting to see a rematch between him and Carpenter. Carpenter will also have the opportunity to wrestle Onofrio in the SCC’s.

With that being said, come states sick or not you have to win.

thats my point skull thats numb. fine with a broken leg and a moraphine drip to ease the pain ford would destroy any 52 lber, this isnt any given sunday, some guys just cant wont lose to other guys, not on thier worst days x10. west is gunna beat chaz michael michaels, and it looks like everyones running away from fruckin frick, thats why 40 looks so deep, no one wants any part of frick, and all those dudes(seniors) want that open title.

also easdt johnson could win opens at 125 and 130. frick could win at 140 and 145, and ford mustang could win at all the weights above 152, so basically you have 3 guys who got every weight class in the state covered...simply stunning.
