last season, 1st place open by classes: LL 3, L 3, M 4, S 3. looks pretty even in the medal department considering that LL can have more than 5 times the males to wrestle than S schools.

S schools never have the number the LL schools get most have trouble filling a roster but the kids on these teams have more heart than most thats why they become so good

lol u guys are idiots. class 's' IS weak, and the reason they always have some kiddos medal at states is cause theres always a few top tier wrestlers (#1 or 2 in the state) who will just walk through their weak class. lols wrestlers at big schools don't have "less heart" hahahahha

having trouble making any sense of the previous post, but the breakdown of open champs was provided above, and was quite balanced last year (although I believe 1 is missing in the 14 total champs). Class S will not have the depth of the larger divisions, but typically there are numerous S champs who will compete for Open titles. Will the 3rd and 4th place "S" kids do as well as the 3rd/4th from LL? Prob not.

2nd place for last year's open is as follows: LL 5, L 5, M 2 and S 2. this trend probably does continue as you go from 3rd and 4th and so on. that is, more LL and less S.
in youth wrestling, there are some huge teams, silverbacks, southington, somers that put lots of kids out there but the top kids can be counted on one hand. not always but often. some teams show up with several guys and thats their whole team and they all are top medal winners. it's not always the numbers.
i went to an LL school but now i see the difficulties these small schools have. i think you guys who get down on smaller schools should watch the movie HOOSIERS.
and to some extent teams like new london who have shown up with 1 or 2 guys does take lots of class and lots of heart.
