i don't know who you are, sleepy, but i'll bet the S class winner in your weight could beat you. and all you have to do is give us your weight and your division. we can figure out the rest. sort of a put up or shut up wager.

ok, i hate it when people say this class is a joke or that league is joke. its not like we get to pick what class or leauge we wrestle in. we just prepare for the tournament and wrestle every match, just like m, l and ll.

Keep it in perspective

Class – S means “Small” Schools (less than 402 boys in the school) Coaches of these teams usually have 20 or less students, not necessarily athletic, on a team each season. This means they have to find a way to fill 14 varsity weight classes with 20 or fewer kids. Every S team has their individual talent that can usually compete at any level in the state and in NE. Example Tyler & Brock from Griswold last year. They both placed 1st in the state and 2nd in NE. I don’t think anyone who wrestled them thought they were a joke because they wrestled in the “Class – S”.

all6 says it best… “It’s not like we get to pick what class or league we wrestle in. we just prepare for the tournament and wrestle every match, just like m, l and ll”

my freshman year we were in the M's and then last year we were in the S's and the only real difference was that there were teams at the M's as for individuals the compettition was pretty much the same

You clearly were tooled my a freshman from a class s school and haven't recovered. My advice is counseling and maybe medication. Keep your head up, face your fears and seek help. God luck.

According to some in NY and NJ there is no competition in CT. Maybe we shouldn't wrestle any more so they won't be offended.

Nothing against Class S - some great wrestlers there - the point was, it's hard not top represnt Class S at the Class S tournament...

(After reading this thread, Class S does seem a little paranoid)

Good luck to all Class S placers, and represent Class S well at the OPENS

Well put hallgrad and all6. "Sleepy" and "takemedownagainandtechme" need to understand a bit of mathematics. LL teams have up to 4 times the number of students to select from-take 3/4 of the team away and fill in with "guys who hadn't really planned on playing a winter sport" - that is what SOME "S" teams have to deal with. Oh-and you don't get to pick which 4 you keep. So when a kid comes from one of those programs it is nothing short of amazing when they perform at the Open.

Many decent "S" wrestlers don't even have another wrestler in their weight class to wrestle with. Some have to go up or down 2-3 weight classes to have a decent match in practice. Kids don't get to pick where they live.

as i was saying each year there is always going to be a few very good wrestlers to come out of class s. Compared to all the other tournaments Class S is by far the least competitive. A 4th place finisher in class S will probally not place in the 3 other classes.

OK, we get it! Smaller schools are often less competitive as a whole them larger schools!! Wow, what a revelation! Thanks for bringing that to our attention, that one slips by most people...seriously....................

You got Devin's weights wrong. He won at 145 in 2000, 160 in 2001, then 152 in 2002.

Statistics can say anything. There's a statistic to support any viewpoint. I think it is fair to say that class S had the weakest performance of the four classes at the Open last year. However, class S certainly contributes some very strong wrestlers year in and year out to Connecticut. I think the number of athletes available to wrestle at Class S schools certainly has a lot to do with it's overall performance and depth. I don't think class S's performance deserves to be insulted with a who-cares mentality.

I'm sure this post will be met with some contrary opinions. Everyone is entitled to their viewpoint and I hope that you will express it below. However, please keep the insults and name-calling to yourself. Thanks...

i agree about statistical anyalysis but the thing about numbers and studies is the more data you gather, the more valid the conclusion may be. it's clear that the Ms do less than twice as good as Ss(20:12) and that LLs do better than twice as good (28:12). i'm curious about the ratios of boys in the schools for the divisions. i saw it in here somewhere.

so my question to anyone who has the numbers is: are the ratios preserved or different when comparing male athletes in a school size to the results that 3periods has shown us for placers 1-6? because there whole numbers and then there are percentages. right?
