i'm trying to be as fair and objective as possible. but as i look to the new englands weight by weight--correct me if i'm wrong but ct looks to be down this year. the only weight CT could concievably win is 119 (but after watching Miguel Guzman lately that seems less and less likely). i see it like this:
103: Roberts (MA) over Lariviere (RI)
112: Buco (MA) over Lariviere (RI)
119: Guzman (MA) over Costanzo (CT)
125: Meyers (RI) over Flannery (MA)
130: Smith (NH) over Gray (VT)
135: Giblin (RI) over Clemens (NH)
140: Feely (RI) over Barruci (MA)
145: DeJesus (MA) over Schaefer (CT)
152: Byrd (NH) over Smith (CT)
160: Williams (MA) over Aldus (ME)
171: Saul (RI) over Petrillo (NH)
189: Spencer (ME) over Bowman (CT)
215: Grillakis (NH) over Holigatis (MA)
285: Nicol (NH) over Muirhead (MA)
OW
Meyers (lower weights)
Williams (upper weights)
These finals match ups reflect actual NE seeding brackets not necessarily the top two kids in each weight. For example at 145 I think Garrett is the # 2 but would see Victor Dejesus in the semis. The same goes for other weights as well.

sorry at 152 there was some misinformation about dean smith. actually ford was the CT wrestler i ment to refer to (the ct 1). and yes they're finals. and unless i miss read a weight on the chart of ne bracket seeding they should make sense.

like i said it had him as the ct 1 on an in correct post. as far as 145 goes i did in fact misread that chart at 145. my apologies. its fair to say whoever comes out of the top half will win the weight.

at 140 i was actually was incorrect again but not with the feely pick as was inferred. im aware he took 2nd but with the RI 1 having to beat pope and telhada from mass i don't see it. i had the MA 2 and 3 in the wrong order so barucci and feely will meet up earlier. it will be a good match but i think feely is overlooked. feely lost a close match in last years quarters to mckinnon (MA) a kid won was a close OT call away from beating timmy rich the ne champ at 140 last year via a pin and overally beating on coutu. i like him probably over pope or telhada. Telhada is really the dark horse here. actually speaking for MA there are 5 really tough 140s this year all of who have beat each other all year. that being said i guess my revised pick at 140 is feely over pope.
ps. u try reading that seeding chart especially sideways like i have been since i cant get the damn thing to rotate.

Same thing with Costanzo (I wish people would start spelling his name right for crying out loud, ive seen CAstanzo, CAstanzA, CostanzA, how hard is it?)Damici is a pretty good practice partner to work with year round, cant see him not winning, Ive never seen the Guzman kid though

HA, not to mention that your dark horse at 140 (RI runner-up Feely) is going to be on the same side of the bracket as Barrucci (MA2) the kid you think he is going to wrestle in the finals.
ALSO, Barrucci was Mass runner-up, so you are right that they will be wrestling, though it will be in the first round, when RI2 wrestles MA2 in the round of 16

see above i responded to the 140 situation. and every state has injurys and guys miss weight. mass lost its #1 at 112 (weight), 135 (injury) and 171 (injury). and lost kids like sean boyle shoe in for a title. so we shouldn't make excuses. the fact is ct is down. guys like frick and others u mentioned just weren't gonna win it all. they woulda placed no doubt but thats not the discussion here. usually the state is much stronger. i have great respect for ct wrestling. in fact ford has a good chance. costanzo sorry to say does not. guzman look unstoppable this year. and wait til u boys see isiah williams at 160.

i called the Guzman over COSTANZO (correct?) match weeks ago. but im feeling brave and going to take Rothberg in the finals at 285 and Sargenti at 135. I think 103 Spencer is a placer as well.

its hard to imagine giblin losing. he had trevor deardon a three time ne champ on his back at least twice in the semis last year. and he looks even better this year.

guzman lost a point in the MA allstate finals for taking gilman with a half nelson and a leg up of the mat over his head and slamming him down on his neck. the kid isn't just quick he's extreemely strong for a 119. and has a mean streak and toughness that suits this tournament well.

Easiest call to make in this tournament is Spencer at 189... he won't lose this year. I think Eon will also be in the finals. I got Costanzo beating Guzman in the 3rd after Miguel loses some steam... Costanzo knows how to slow down the pace & make it his match! I think the style of wrestler we needed to beat Myers at 125 was Lynn, but he was too banged up & burnt out to get there, so I have him winning it because of his neutral. Sargenti could also make finals. 140 winner is OW

CarolinaDave... good call with Arnold! I don't know much about his big tournament experience, but having NEs at Hillhouse (a familiar venue)could settle his nerves, & he could make a big time showing!
Vollaro will place

anyhow---we can nit pick all day long but the general point i was trying to make was that CT seems to be way down compared to other years. i think thats obvious and we can all agree. so will CT be stronger next year?

Sargenti has looked way too good this year to not place top 4 at new englands, maybe even make it to the finals and have a good match.
Spencer really impressed me at opens, is he a freshman? if so he might not have enough experience to wrestle at such a high level of competition
Arnold hasnt seen any competition all year...nobody in CT can hang with him, and i dont think simsbury wrestles a tough enough schedule for him to face some tough out of state competition, he will be interesting to watch
Schaefer wresetles really well when the pressure is on so hopefully he will bring his A game to New Englands

I have to agree with Mass Grappler, we have a strong chance of getting shut out this year. Then again, maybe we get a surprise like Fish last year. But let's look at the weight classes:
103 Spencer blew through CT, so maybe he places well
112 - not happening here, unless Ekpenyong picks up his game
119 - Costanzo vs. Guzman looks 50/50.
125 - Ferrante and Thuotte are both good enough for the podium. But not top
step
130 - not here
135 - Sargenti wins the New Englands....next year.
140 - Abbate and Clarke could reach podium but not win.
145 - Schaeffer has been wrestling well lately...maybe?
152 - Ford wins it.. in 2010.
160 - nope
171 - Vollaro could contend, needs to be more consistent in early rounds
189 - Haven't seen enough of Bowman to make any statements here
215- A real good chance here, maybe 50/50.
285 - We are deep here, but won't get past Furlon & Nichol
RI having a good crop for the first time in ages will hurt us. Bottom line, I think we win just one class, most likely candidates are 119, 171, 215.

spencer will not make it past bridson 103 was really weak in ct this year, he might not even have placed in mass.I watched that open final if they wrestled again lonergan would win.Lonergan must have not wrestled anyone all year because one crab ride and got stuck...Spencer better work on his bottom game before he sets foot on a New England mat...
