Elite wrestlers go as light as possible, they don't bump up two weight classes in a season unless they have a record growth spurt/weight gain.

A final decision on his weight class for 09-10 will not be made until after Thanksgiving dinner 2009. Anything you may hear or read before then in just a rumor.

Not really. That is one of our problems, we are "two" thin at each weight class. Some of our studs can't hang because they are too small for the weight class. Ford did great but he looked no bigger than the 140's that were in the finals. I would say we only had a few kids that looked the weight class, the rest could of been at a lower weight. A little discipline and diet can go a long way when you have someone as equal as you in skill. That was one big difference I noticed. Not that dieting is everything, but it sure can play a role. I thought some of our 140's were as skilled or better than the two in the finals, but they were no where near the same size. The 145's look like our 160 pounders. It may sound petty to some, and I know some people are against the weight cutting issues. But to me it is part of this sport especially at a higher level, where you need every edge you can get. Here in Ct we haven't needed that edge to be on top, because we are watered down.
All that being said I think we were young. We should start a nice climb to the top starting next year. We should be excited at the talent coming back, and if they work hard this off season we should have a chance to make some noise next year.

I'll have to disagree… You don't get stronger just but cutting weight. Kids have to start lifting weights sooner, like right now not the summer or fall. Weight training takes time and consistency. Start your strength training early, watch your diet all year long and then go as low as you are comfortable going. 6% body fat is easily attainable.

Wow i just read the Norwich Bulletin editorial Ford's father wrote,and this guy has some issues. First thing is he left out Andrew was shoving the other wrestler off the mat. Then that kid got tough and the sparks began to fly. The other kid is a good wrestler as well, and Ford is not an untouchable as far as wrestling goes he went into overtime with carpenter at the open and lost the finals at new englands. He is a very good wrestler by any standard. But Ford's father disparaged a montville wrestler to save his son's reputation. Wow what a jerk he is for doing that. The father of the Montville wrestler is the head coach as well, Wilcox was a men's national champion in Judo and sombo wrestling champion, and doesn't want to comment because there are kids involved and the incident was small and doesn't represent Andrew's character. But i wish he would take apart Ford's father for the crap he wrote about one kid to save his son. Maybe the real culprit here is the father living through his son's atheletic ability becasue he had none of his own. Keep it up Mr. Ford because you have no class at all.

I read Mr. ford's response and I think its rational, reasonable, and respectable. The article told only one side of the story and I don't blame him for responding in the respectful way he did to protect his son's reputation. His paternal instincts are admirable. Those who disparage him might be better off looking to him as a role model. The guy is involved in his son's life. That's more than I can say about alot of fathers. Mr. Ford is at every one of his son's matches, supporting him and his sport. He also spends his free time trying to make wrestling better and more enjoyable for connecticut wrestlers. I'm sure that talent aside, Andrew's success has a good deal to do with his father's support and love. Most very successful athletes have very supportive and loving families.

Wow, I'm just appalled that someone would take the incident between Andrew and Dustin to this level. And even attacking Mr. Ford, who has taken time to do rankings for all of us. As for someone from Montville doing this, that is just a disgrace to your team, because i know that most of the guys that wrestle for Montville have some class. By bashing a wrestler, parent, or coach, that makes you a disgrace to the wrestling community. I'm even wondering if the person who is Montville09 is a wrestler, if so then things must have changed a lot since the class of 08 left our small wrestling room.

yikes, hey all the people working so hard trying to find out who I am. Hint: I actaully grew up in Montville, I was born in New London. I lived across the st from St. Bernards High School. But I have moved all over the state and now live about an hour away from there. Anyways the ford new is old.

I posted this on a previous thread and I feel it applies and I thought it was pretty good, so I'll post it here because of the amount of disrespect thats been going on
I will say that our forum has become less about wrestling and more like Desperate Housewives. The amount of drama we post on the site is pretty ridiculous. The way Vernick acted, the way Ford acted, 3periods response, and alot of other bull that we have been posting, especially the last couple months. Talk about the good wrestling we saw this weekend, sure CT wasn't as strong this NE but we should take that as a challenge. We should be trying to get better on the mat not finding stories to overdramatize and make good people seem like jerks. I've been wrestling for a long time and I'll be honest it is hard to find a wrestling family that is truly full of douchebags, they are out there no doubt but not many. Why is that? Because wrestling doesn't get the respect it should, it is the hardest sport, the most amount of work, and the least amount of public recognition. There is no MLB equivalent for wrestling,great wrestlers don't get paid, they don't get highlights on sportscenter, all we get is one slot a year on ESPN for the D-1 collegiate finals, the finals and that it. Have respect for your wrestling peers, whether they are great wrestlers or the JV scrubs they work thier asses off in a way that no athlete in any other sport will ever do, they are right beside you running wind sprints after practice, sitting with you at lunch making sure you don't eat too much so you make weight for weigh-ins the next morning. Your teamates have your back, your wrestling community is suppossed to have your back, let's have each others back. Yea I'm about to steal a line from Juelz Santana's "The Second Coming"...together we stand divided we fall. Yea this post may be a little excessive but it has a point, and I'm pretty sure we can all relate to it, each of your fellow wrestlers has made a decision to take part in this sport, to make a journey that few other will ever experience. Respect that, and respect yourselves..by belitting your opponents you aren't doing either
