If you're talking about NHSCA, I think the only one that requires qualification is the Senior Nationals. The Freshman, Sophomore and Junior Nationals are open registration.

There are many post season tournaments that are named "National Championships". The one that is most recognized as being a continuation of a Regional High School Championships(New England) is the NHSCA National Championships. For a long time this was one tournament for High School seniors that at some point during their High School career, was state champion. In the last few years more tournaments have been added to the NHSCA which include the Elementary/Middle School National Championships, Freshman National Championships, Sophomore National Championships and Junior National Champhionships. All but the Senior National Championships have an open registration where the only eligibility is that you are currently in the grade that you are registering to (you are a freshman registering to the Freshman National Championships)

One of the issues in CT may be that the open registration is not widely known. This is apparant when you look at past rosters from these tournaments.

So if you have the means of getting there, then by all means get there.

more info @ http://www.nhsca.com/ Check out the Events section for a link to each tournament.

2009 NHSCA Senior National High School Wrestling Championships Debuts Exclusively on ESPN360.com

ESPN360.com and the National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) have reached an agreement to offer wrestling fans live coverage the 2009 Senior National High School Wrestling Championships presented by U.S. Navy exclusively on ESPN's broadband sports network for the very first time. State title holders and top 4 finishers of the more competitive states will face off at the Virginia Beach Convention Center in this pinnacle competition event for high school wrestling.

The event will air live on ESPN360.com on Sunday April 5 from 7-9 p.m. ET, and will be followed by a 30-minute highlight show that will air on ESPNU in July.

“This is a great day for the NHSCA and scholastic wrestling,” said Bob Ferraro, executive director, NHSCA. “Our new relationship with ESPN360.com provides more opportunity to promote and celebrate the achievements of top caliber high school student-athletes and their coaches that will be participating in our championship events.”

“ESPN360.com is proud to offer exclusive live coverage of the NHSCA Senior National High School Wrestling Championships,” said John Lasker, senior director of programming for ESPN360.com. “We’re thrilled to be providing our platform for wrestling fans to catch some of their major events live online, on both the high school and college level.”

For the third year in a row, ESPN360.com will stream live coverage of the NCAA Div. I Wrestling Championships this Friday, March 20 by once again complementing the ESPNU HD, ESPN2 HD and ESPN HD telecasts with unparalleled access to all rounds of the championships. ESPN360.com will provide live simultaneous coverage of all four mats during the quarterfinals and both mats in the semifinals, offering users the option to select the match they want to see.

Dave Armstrong will serve as play-by-play announcer alongside analysts Tim Johnson and Olympic gold medalist Jeff Blatnick, with reporter Quint Kessenich, a former two-time county wrestling champion at New York’s Lynnbrook High School. For ESPN360.com coverage, 1981 NCAA 134-pound champion wrestler Jim Gibbons, who coached the 1987 Iowa State Cyclones to the national title, returns as analyst and will be joined by play-by-play announcer Shawn Kenney. Live coverage of the NCAA Div. I Wrestling Championships from the Scottrade Center in St. Louis is as follows:
