Why don't they use only one light and have the mat for the State Finals directly under it ( at Hillhouse ). Danbury used just one light with their match against Fairfield Warde and it was really great. Besides, when we are talking about the " State Finals ", I think all of those wrestlers deserve to be spotlighted for their dedication, courage and skill level. It would also be a step up for the New England Finals as well.

I used to think it gave a different feel to the finals but i've seen too many bad calls under the lights with shadows and stuff. Bad idea there are already too many controversies... especially in NE's

As far as using one light goes, it creates a much more exciting environment for everybody.
I really don't think you can attribute the referees making bad calls because of the 1 light with shadows or anything else. I've seen plenty of blown calls this year by referees with the gyms completely lit up. There are going to be blown either way, its just the way it is.
Let's hope that they start providing the 1 light finals from now on as it will bring a more intense environment and hopefully more interest in wrestling. I can say that 2 years ago, I had a chance to watch the L's at BC with the 1 light on the circle and it was really awesome. The fans get really into it and there aren't many distractions.
BTW, I would suggest using this at Opens/New England's especially since this year they didn't even have chairs set up for the finalists! Half of the finalists just laid on the floor like they were at the beach in August waiting for their match to begin. We've gotta change that next year, it just looked poor.

I agree a mat light would make a more presentable appearence at the open and ne's..i wrestled for BC the first yr we got the light and i must say it is an amazing experience especially during rival matches and tourny finals..the light doesnt make any shadows that could distract the refs, the only shadows are the ones on the wrestlers make and that doesnt even matter much when the ref is standing 3 ft from you.

While i agree, the main light looks cool. but strictly from a camera guy POV. It creates problems with lighting. we have to tweak our camera settings to produce a decent image. and sometimes it can look a bit grainy,or very bright. i know some of you saw my BC invite videos. had to up the exposure alot to get a decent video.
but yea, main light seems more epic.
