Anyone else catch div 1 finals today? I dont usually watch college wrestling but wow those guys move. Even heir heavyweights move realy good. All the classes were rolling all over the place and moving real quick yet no one seemed to be breathless. They must have hellacious pratices. Gotta love the Caldwell and Metcalf match at 149.. Its crazy comparing the college kids to high school kids as far as size goes.. Take a look at the 133's, there much more fit then some of our 152's! No offese to are guys I mean its college and the guys are about 4 years older but still take a look at some of our top wrestlers like Carpenter at 152, or Vernik or Sargenti or Monson.. These guys arent ripped or anything yet they still are elite of there weight class.. Then look at some of the college kids like Donahoe 125 or Gomez 133 really anyone at these weights. Ive heard from many coaches that having no muscle doesnt fly at the college level. Alot of the kids that are not muscle heads seem to excel at the high school level. Any care to comment on anything I wrote?

Yeah those college wrestlers are pretty ripped. Absolute minimum body fat. You gotta be like 5'0" to be that big and still only 125 lbs. I did notice also how the elite talent is not very dispursed. Out of all the wrestlers in D1, it's amazing how one school can produce more than one finalists.

lol i listened to the interviews they gave way after the match and Caldwell was saying how metcalf is a great wrestler and all he did was wrestle to the end and he could see how he was upset for loosing.... Then you have Metcalf who was saying how he was attacking him all the way to the end and al he saw was a person jumping around during the match..... Clearly the match had ended when he was flipping, sure it was a little obnoxious but he just upsetted this kid for a national title. Not ot mention is wasnt a shot he took or anything he pushed him lol anyways I have one of there 1st matches, I think they wrestled 3 times, the one I have was pre season and didnt count on there records but Caldwell pins Metcalf in a stading spladle.

Metcalf's only two losses of his career were to Caldwell. Once last year at the St Edwards Duals and this year at the NCAAs. They also met earlier this year at the NWCA All-Star Classic, which was an exhibition match, and Metcalf teched Caldwell 19-3.

It was awesome to see all of those guys on Saturday night. Here's my problem with the Caldwell-Metcalf match. They get to the 3rd period and Caldwell is hanging on to the lead. I don't know much about these guys, but the announcers are saying how Metcalf is at his best late in matches. Even Caldwell said afterwards that he knew Metcalf would be tough late and he needed to score in the early rounds. So, with the lead, Caldwell basically takes a timeout in the 3rd period as they tend to an "injury" while the crowd is booing. They resume the match, he hangs on to win and then starts doing handsprings on the mat - while there are still a few seconds left. So, in the span of a couple minutes, he goes from being injured enough to interrupt the match, to winning and doing handsprings. What a recovery. That's the way I saw it. It definitely tainted the win from my perspective.

My problem is that he was grimacing in pain during his timeout, and then went immediately into his gymnastics routine while there were still a couple of seconds left on the clock. I guess if the rules allow you to get a timeout, you might as well take advantage of it and he obviously did. If handsprings are his thing, he could've done them off the mat, in front of all of the Ohio State fans that were cheering him on. I guess it is not that big of a deal - it simply tainted the victory and the match for me.
