nolimit, I have some experience organizing and running tournaments.
My recommendation would be to get with USAWCT.org and see if they have a weekend open for a fall folkstyle tournament. Schedule it for a Sunday. This way the soccer and football players that may want to wrestle will still be able to. Most football and soccer players would not be available for a Saturday tournament if they wanted to wrestle. The summer (July and August) is VERY tough for scheduling. The few wrestlers that are training are doing mostly freestyle in preparation for Cadet and Junior Duals, and Fargo. After Fargo, many of the wrestlers that are training for these events take August off from competing and work at, or go to, camps.
Publicize the tournament by e-mailing your pdf application to other state tournament links. Wrestlers may travel from throughout the northeast to CT if they have a small selection of tournaments in their home states on a particular weekend.
Team Dual tournaments are tough to organize, but run much easier than open tourneys once you get to tournament day. I always prefered team duals because they were more fun to participate in for wrestlers, parents and coaches. In my opinion, they build team unity and give coaches a chance to evaluate all their wrestlers by having the team together and going in weight order on one mat. None of that "Jimmy's on mat 3, Tom's is coming up on 2 and Rick is in the second period on 5."
Mark Cammisa (spelling?, two Ms or two Ss? I can never remember without looking it up)
is the president of USAWCT and is very knowledgeable with tons of contacts to help you locate any wrestling resources you may need. He may also think of something that you may not think of, which could save you a ton of aggravation late in the planning.
Hope this post helps you in some way. Good luck.
