A sad story for those in the wrestling community that knew the Rix family. The Rixes are a Maine family that has been involved in wrestling for as long as I can remember. Matt Jr, 19, died Wednesday morning. I had met Matt, his father and his sister Deanna, many years ago after hauling my boys up to the Marshwood Classic Wrestling tournament. They were a true wrestling family.
Although I'm not sure Mr Rix would remember me, I wish he and his family the best. It saddened me greatly to read the articles about his son's death. God bless the Rixes.
SERVICES: Friends may visit with Matty's family from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Marshwood High School on Route 236 in South Berwick. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. at the high school. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marshwood High School Wrestling Boosters, Matt Rix Memorial Fund, and sent to Kennebunk Savings Bank, 7 Levesque Drive, Eliot, ME 03903, or any other KSB branch. Sad story, but hopefully an eye opener. I have seen to many wrestlers fall into silmilar paths. Even the most dedicated and succesfull wrestlers can fall from grace.
Matt passed away on my B-Day!!! Very Sad.
