Hi

broadband is certainly available - I was set up with it by my employer and it seems that you just choose your supplier (for example, AOL or whoever is your email service provider), sign up, pay your fee and get the portal (a separate bit of kit), plug it in to phoneline and computer as instructed and off you go! You then pay a monthly sub (the intial cost is for the portal, though I think some suppliers offer them for free) and you then don't pay for your 'calls' to the internet and can keep it on all the time should you wish. Phone connection while online seems clear and unaffected, and you pay for normal phone calls as per usual to BT or whoever. Good luck!

Sorry, got my terminology wrong (having just looked at the box). What I was calling a portal is in fact called a Gateway, and is a type of modem. Mine's made by Netgear and calls itself a Router, to further complicate matters.

Pipex broadband

I'm using broadband in the village and find it excellent.

My broadband provider is Pipex, who gave me a free modem and paid the BT charge for making the necessary changes to the line. They are efficient and everything was sorted out quickly and without hassle. Look at the Pipex Xtreme Solo 2 Go package on www.pipex.com. Good luck!

I subscribe to freedom2surf (can be found on internet), use Speedtouch 510 v4 ADSL router available from BroadbandBuyer.co.uk (Based in Newport Pagnell). My IT department from work suggested this combination as a better and safer option than BT / AOL etc etc. They gave me lots of "techy" reasons so I guess they know best !!! Dont know how I ever coped without it !!!!
