I’m not sure if anyone out there can answer this or not, but here’s the question … I was wondering if anyone out there knew the line up for the upcoming GI Joe Spy Troop or GI Joe VS Cobra 3+” action figure series? I’ve started collecting them, but I’m not sure if there’s method to the madness of releasing them. It seems like the characters they have been releasing are great but random (a combo of old school Joe favorites and new “reminds me of an old Joe with a different name” type of characters). The characters of special interest are the following: Major Bludd, Lady Jay, Falcon, Jinx, Zandar, Zarana, Rock N’Roll, Scrap Iron, Cover Girl, Mutt and Junkyard and Doc. You can find Dial-Tone, Jinx, and Stalker in the Tiger Force 5-pack now in Toys 'R Us stores. You should also still be able to find Wild Weasel with the Rattler, and wave 5's Torpedo, Recondo, and Tunnel Rat. And I hope you didn't miss the Blowtorch/Snow Serpent 2-pack from last year's wave 3.
Old favorites in the current wave of Spy Troops are Roadblock, Beachhead (as one word), Flint, and Shipwreck, plus new versions of Dr. Mindbender and Ripper. Grunt and Slip-Stream are of interest among the vehicle drivers.
The next wave (7) is supposed to include Lady Jaye, Destro, and another Grunt figure, plus the new comic character Kamakura. Major Bludd (the 1994 mold) will be part of an ultra-cool Python Patrol set exclusive to Toys 'R Us this summer.
The last Rock 'n Roll figure was released in 2001 with the TRU's Headquarters, but since it was obviously just a repainted Flint, the figure was redesignated Flint the following year. The previous Rock 'n Roll figure, also a disaster, came out in 1997.
None of the other figures you've mentioned are scheduled for release, as far as I know. The most likely ones would probably be Mutt and Falcon. Zandar and Zarana are also possibilities, since the Dreadnoks seem to be coming back. Doc died in the comic, but then again, so did Breaker.
I'm all for a return of Cover Girl and Scrap-Iron. I'd like to add to that list Flash, Steeler, Airborne, Rip Cord, Airtight, and Alpine. We could also use fresh versions of Footloose, Mainframe, and the Crimson Guard.
