Not enough money for School Buses? In Coronado?

by

I think that realtors should be aware that Coronado no longer provides buses to schools in the area. This is a major concern for residents south of the Hotel Del.

The Coronado Unified School District claims they do not have money to provide buses, however it is clear the money was just reappropriated to a different cause.

Coronado schools have an additional 100 students which in monetary terms means approximately $500,000. dollars which they claim was used for raises, however, the teachers raises were funded prior to the school year, before they found out they have 100 extra students.

Clearly they have the money but they simply do not care that children are at risk. If they bicycle they ride about 8 miles one way through Coronado's clogged streets. Another option is to ride the public bus, which is very crowded and not supported by the bus drivers. For example, recently an 11 year old missed his stop and the bus driver forced the kid off the bus at 12th and imperial downtown San Diego. It was very fortunate that a gentleman assisted the kid with money and a map to get back to school.

Clearly not have public school buses endangers children, the board believes getting kids to school is "A Parent Responsibility". They do not care that families have more than one person working or do not have a schedule which accommodates this tasking.

One saying I have heard is "things that matter most must never fall prey to those which matter least". Clearly public school buses matter most because if you can not get kids to school it doesn't matter how great the curriculum or teachers are.

I am a member of a group whose goal is to get Kids In School Safely or KISS, this group is comprised of cays residents and military families who have relied on these buses for at least 20 years.

This will have a direct impact on the housing sales in Coronado Cays. I ask for your support in whatever form you can to help get Kids In School Safely.

I thank you for you support in advance.

Very Respectfully,

Mark C. Carrol
