If an enhancement were made to a players equipment, it would be ushered in by the NHL as quickly as possible. The ODM is labeled as a "cheater device" solely becuase current goaltenders have evolved a great deal over the last 15 years, and have a great advantage to players in terms of evolutionary scale. The ODB is simply a performance enhancing piece of equpment, such as the over sized gloves, blockers, leg pads, pants, and chest protectors in use today; the bane of the ODB is that it is not an evolution in the product, but rather an addition to the product, that coupled with the current performance of goaltenders compared to their player counterparts is the reason why this evolutionary device has been marked only for "cheaters".
